finale 2003 VD questions

Ok, i got my oxygen 8 (which i highly recommend) and got my sounds to work with finale 2003 (SB audigy plat ex). my question is, for tenors, when writing crossovers i like to change the notehead, should that affect the sound playback?

also, my cymbal, tenor and bass sounds are great, but my snare sound going in (on the keyboard) is alot better than the sound that comes back out of finale, it is a minor issue, but annoying anyone have any suggestions?

thanks

In Finale, if you change the notehead on a mapped note (to indicate a crossover for example), I'm pretty sure it will affect the sound output and confuse Finale which is kind of a drag. I'm not a regular Finale user anymore, but I recall having this same question early on. You could write the crossover into your stickings (R-L-Rx-Lx) which is probably the quickest way (albeit not as clean). Otherwise, you'd either have to sacrifice the sound by changing the notehead, or create a separate "print" score that would be used for extracting parts/printing, and a "playback" score that plays back properly, but doesn't look as nice. Not a great solution on this one unfortunately. In writing rudimental percussion music, there are often too many variables to work smoothly with both playback AND print/display.

I think you can change a mapped notehead in Sibelius and it won't affect the playback sound, however there are some quirks to Sibelius' mapping that make it a little difficult at times as well.

Good luck!

No kidding? That's great! I stand corrected then. Thanks bassplate!
