This is kinda wierd.
I'm using VD with Finale 2004 on a 1.2G Duron system with 256M and a Soundblaster Live OEM.
Everything works fine except......
On playback the VD sounds are much lower in volume than other system sounds. I'm familiar with and have checked the volume control areas of the OS (W2K PRO). I've even made sure to indicate a volume at the first measure (through the end of the piece).
The difference is so much that if I'm using headphones to hear my cadences and a system message is triggered (like "printing started"), it comes out like "PRINTING STARTED!!!" and I nearly jump out of my skin.
Has anyone had a similar experience that has been corrected.
CAN YOU HEAR ME? AM I TALKING LOUD ENOUGH? :D

Try going into AudioHQ, and open up the "mixer." In there, turn your volumes up and see if that helps some. Also, try going into the "keyboard" of AudioHQ, and turn up the output volume for the bank that contains the VDrumline soundfont bank.
