Modifications and Tips on VD

A few questions...

Has anyone figured out how to modify the sounds to get two spocks?

Has anyone figured out how to use a marcato accent and get it to actually play the accent. i had to change them all to regular accents, but then it's not notated the way i want (and not as loud as it technically should be)?

Has anyone figured out how to get sibelius to notate the sustained buzzes in addition to playing them?

Can i modify the noteheads without changing the sound, ie to mark crossovers?

I am using hairpin crescendos but when i enter them i don't hear them. Do i have to also modify the midi commands in the score?

When I write things at slower tempos things start to sound wierd... ie triplet rolls at 120 bpm. Can I do something to make it sound better?

I am also a little confused with how to enter say... crescendo 16ths on my keyboard using the mod wheel. Can someone give me a quick rundown on how to do that. I want to say... cresendo in two counts from piano to forte.

LASTLY, Is anyone saving time with this yet? It's taking me a while to learn the maps, but I have a feeling that once I do I will have to learn to play it like an instrument anyway to save time... much like playing quads but learning all new drum patterns...

Peace.
One more...

Has anyone figured out how to get this to sound like a full drumline as opposed to a bass line with one snare and one tenor player (aside from volume). As in... we are using this through other programs (I am using Kompakt). Has anyone tried delays or different effects over the samples to get a fuller battery sound? this may help with sound quality/consistency issues from entering. Anyone?

The guy with all the questions and no answers yet. (I will experiement more.)
Last one I promise...

If I burn a cd of drumline pieces that used VD to produce the sounds, Can I sell it royalty-free? (not selling the samples individually, but selling the wav files of my compositions).

Out.

I haven't done this before, but it would require either reprogramming the library so there were actually two spocks, OR simply adding more notes to the percussion map in sibelius so there were two notated spoks that each played the same one from VDrumline. This might be a worthy feature for us to add into a future version.

Marcato accents do actually playback from Sibelius (as they do from Finale). The problem you hear (I think), is that the relationship between these accents and any "taps" or lower notes around them isn't contrasted enough. Sibelius 3 has a new function called "live velocity" that allows you to edit these taps down pretty easily.

I simply enter in the buzz of my choice (short, med, long, cresc or decres), then I type in a "Z" with the technique text and place it on the stem. It's quick, looks right, and sounds right.

I think this may get a little funky. I indicate my crossovers in the sticking (i.e. R-R-L-L-Rx-Rx....)

If you haven't yet upgraded to Sibeilus 3, you may be hearing a funny bug that used to drive me nuts. Basically, on tuplets that had diddle slashes, it would play three notes (instead of the correct TWO), and the third attack would sort of overlap with the attack of the next hand. This would only happen on certain partials of the tuplet as well.

I'm not sure about this. Cresc. would basically be created by an increase in midi velocity for each successive attack. I've never used the mod wheel for this.

Learning the maps doesn't take too long. Personally, using these sounds has changed the way I write, and I can't imagine being without them!

Actually, all recordings of the snare/tenor samples ARE a full line (8 snares, 5 tenors). With the voices playing back in context with the music, it really does come across this way (in my opinion). If we recorded a solo snare drummer, then used that as the sample, you'd hear a pretty big difference comparitively. Not the fat, full sound you get from hearing a whole drumline play.

Yes. Per the licensing agreement, you don't actually "OWN" the sounds, but you are LICENCED to use them commercially in your own music production compositions (which you own). You can record your compositions using Virtual Drumline without having to pay anything to Tap Space...you've paid for the licence to use them in this way. You can't, however, reproduce the sounds (which are owned by Tap Space) in their isolated form for other sample libraries, or to share with other users.
