Hey, I'm looking for a free or cheap midi sampler for soundfonts for a mac. A friend of mine has a mac and i'm getting him into soundfonts but the Soundblaster situation for macs doesn't seem to be looking too hot. Please help me out for any mac software to use with soundfonts! Thanks!

Hi Koko,
If he's using OSX, and is just looking to use small, generic soundfonts, he can actually just load them directly into: Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > Sounds > Banks. Once an .sf2 file is there, it can be accessed from the Quicktime System Preferences pane, and set to the default soundfont, useable in notation programs.
The Virtual Drumline soundfonts however, are much more in-depth than a smaller GM soundfont, and don't work this way. To use those, it's probably a better idea to use a program like Kompakt or Kontakt, and load the Giga version which is much more flexible than the soundfont version. You can download a demo of Kontakt at the Native Instruments site. Rumor has it that there will be a Kompakt demo available soon too.
