Problems Hearing Playback using Kompakt/VD/Finale 2005

Hello,

I just recently got VD/Kompakt/Maple Midi/Oxygen 8/Finale 2005 and set it up on my Desktop PC using XP on 512. Everything works great and I love everything about it.

However, I also installed the same exact set-up on my Laptop but having problems hearing it playback at all. There is just absolutely no sound when playing back. I also only hear the snare sounds when entering in Tenor, Bass & Cymbal parts on the Finale Template that Tapspace created.

Any tips and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and if it helps, I'm using a Sony Vaio on XP running on 512

Are you assigning each instrument to its own channel in Kompakt? If you leave it set on Omni, it will play back all notes assigned to that key.

Are you sure that all of the settings are exactly the same on your laptop as they are on your desktop? If they are, then I'm not sure why you're not hearing any sounds on playback.
Dan - There could be a number of reasons why this is happening, and usually it's just a small setting that you may have forgotten to make.

Here are a few things to check:
1. Make sure midi-in in Kompakt is set to Maple Midi. Your keystation driver should be set to "off" here.

2. As Bill mentioned, make sure that each instrument in Kompakt is assigned to a unique midi channel, and that those settings correspond to the settings in your Finale Instrument List window.

3. Be sure you've downloaded the latest .nki Virtual Drumline files from tapspace

4. In Finale, be sure that all staves are set to PLAY ('P' column selected in instrument list), and that none are set to SOLO ('S' column in the instrument list).

5. In Kompakt, check to make sure no instruments are set to "mute" or "solo."
Jim,

Everything is working fine now. Thanks for the help. The problem was that I forgot to download the updated .nki file on my laptop. Thank you for reminding me.

Regards,
Dan

PS... Congrats on winning High Drums this Summer!!! I saw you guys at the Tournament of Champions in San Jose. You guys were awesome!!! What was also cool was hearing the drumline "live" in comparison to Virtual Drumline in my own home... it really does sound like the SCV Drumline lives in my PC. Great product!!! Although I have Finale 2005 w/ the Rowloff sound fonts, I still prefer VD for a more REALISTIC experience and sound.
