Using Finale, I'd like to get horn sounds from some channels and VDL2 sounds from other channels. I'm sure there are other drum corps or band arrangers out there looking for the same thing. Is this easier with Finale or Sibeluis? Is it possible to split up the sounds like this?
On a side note, could I set up an electronic drumset to trigger VDL2 sounds live? Hmm... that's a whole different topic there. Sorry, I'll start a new thread.

Indeed. I believe Finale's MIDI Setup is set to access sound devices in banks of 16 channels. So for instance, you can tell Finale to send channels 1-16 to output to your keyboard or sound module, then channels 17-32 could be routed to VDL2 (or Kontakt if you have VDL2 sounds loaded into it in the background) via your Virtual MIDI Cable.
Maybe one of our Finale experts can chime in on how exactly you might go about playing back brass sounds from Finale's stock sounds (say on channels 1-16), then routing other channels (17-32) to VDL2. My Finale chops have gotten a bit rusty.
Bear in mind, marching band scores can be rather thick. To ask your computer to play back ALL of that scoring (high polyphony) in real time may become taxing on your computer (depending on your system). Sometimes, I find it helpful to create a brass/ww reduction (say on two staves), and add that to my percussion scores. This can offer better performance during the writing process while still allowing me to hear the perc to wind interaction without completely grinding the system to a halt.
