I have finale 2003 and I WANT VDL SOUNDS ON HERE!!!! I am new so please bare with me. can someone start from the beginning on what I have to do with everything that I have. Thank you.
You need to be more specific about your setup. Other than the three software programs mentioned, what is your computer setup? Which OS, windows or mac? How much RAM and what size hard drive? What type of sound card, if any? Which version of VDL?
Outside of saying load the programs on to the computer then read the manuals, what else confuses you?

I have Windows XP, 704MB of RAM, P4 w/ 2.8GHz, and a 40GB HArd Drive, with VDL 1. Sorry I left this information out, it was late when I posted and I forgot. But yea, I've read everything from the manual to the forums and everything just confuses me. If someone can just give me a step by step on what to do with everything, that would be greatly appreciated.

1. start finale 2. start kontakt 3. in finale - go to MIDI pull down menu and select MIDI setup - if you are using a midi keyboard or controller to enter notes, specify that in the MIDI in column - under MIDI out select how finale will send info to kontakt (finale output bus, etc.) 4. in kontakt go to setup - MIDI - specify in MIDI IN what you set as MIDI out for finale - MIDI out is not important for kontakt 5. still in kontakt - open - navigate to where you stored your VDL files and select your instruments
this should get you started I'll post more later, In the mean time check this forum again for info on windows audio and the finale forums for info on finale and soft synths, etc.

to continue....
You will need to load each battery instrument individually (am I correct on this Jim?). It's your choice as to using the sound font or the giga files. I believe kontakt will load giga files. Check through the VDL1 Giga forum for any issues or problems.
As I said earlier, setting up audio and midi in a windows system is not my area of understanding other than finale/kontakt. The specific system specs you will need to get from others.
Again, HTH.

You can either load each instrument into it's own channel, or you can load the multi. Of course it's been a while since I looked at VDL:1 that I can't even remember if there were multi's included on the disk. If not, I believe there were some on the support page.
Load each giga file into it's own channel by clicking on the instrument name in the Kontakt browser. Or you can click on Load/Save>Load>Load to instrument and navigate to where you have the VDL:1 samples saved on your hard drive.
One thing that occurred to me. Do you have the full version of Kontakt or a Kontakt Player from another program? If you have the Kontakt Player, you can't load any third party sounds into it. In Kontakt, click on File>Setup and under the MIDI tab, turn on the virtual MIDI cable in input to on. Make sure everything else is off.
Out of curiosity, what virtual MIDI cable are you using?

Thanks for jumping Bill. I did not think there was a multi for VDL1 either. And the virtual midi cables is something I don't have to deal with as a mac user.
