Another problem with Sib 3, Maple, and Reason

Alright, I know you get a lot of these, but I can't seem to find another thread about it and I've given up trying to figure it out on my own. I am currently using my laptop with Sibelius 3, Maple Midi Tools, Reason 3.0, and VDL 1. I finally figured out how to hook everything up and connect and play the sounds through Reason, however, I can only seem to get the Snare sounds to work. I have all of the sound libraries loaded through the NN-XT, and each NN-XT is sorted through Channels 1-4 on Maple Midi In Port 1. I have them set in Sibelius to use Port 1, and each of the staves configured through Tapspace's latest template as they should be. But to no avail, I can only get the Snare to play back. What's the issue?

Thanks,

Kyle
Kyle,
It sounds like you have the MIDI connector enabled in Reason. In Reason, in the sequencer window, you'll probably see a little MIDI icon next to your snare track. Click that icon to toggle it off (so there's no midi icon).

As long as you have ";midi thru"; checked in the Sibelius ";devices"; window, Reason should now respond to whichever track in sibelius is selected, or for full playback, the whole score.
Hello, it seems like Taran had my exact problem.
I can only get the snare staff to playback.  I'm on an iBook G4, VD1, Reason 2.5, Sibelius 4.
The weird thing is that the tenor, bass, cymbal staves behave properly...i.e. notes LOOK correct but with no sounds.  This leads me to believe it's not a Sibelius issue.  I have used VD before on my pc with Sib 3, but I am new to Reason though, so this may be the problem for me now.  I have the NN-XT units in place with the appropriate samples loaded.  In the ";Hardware Interface"; unit i have the four NN-XT's set to channels 1-4, like the tapspce site said.  And when I input notes into Sibelius the ";note on"; light is flaching for the correct NN-XT unit even when the sound doesn't work.  One possibility could be the NN-XT unit's wiring.  when looking at the ";back"; of the units, I have the 1/L and 2/R  of each NN-XT wired up to the hardware interface with the Snare NN-XT wired to -1/2  Tenors -5/6  Bass -9/10  Cym -13/14.
I think this is right since it looks like each Channel has 4 inputs.

Anyway... when I first saw this post I looked for that MIDI icon in the sequencer window of Reason...it was there but on NN-XT 4 (Cymbals).  Weird.
So, I took it off like you said but nothing changed.

Thanks for any help,
Mike

Mike, I think your problem may be with how you've connected the various components in Reason. Typically (i think), each individual NN-XT would be routed to a separate MIXER channel. i.e. Snares on mixer channel 1, tenors on mixer channel 2, etc. Then route the master out of the mixer to channels 1 (L) and 2 (R) of the hardware interface. If you have a multi-channel soundcard, you could use more than 1 and 2, but my guess is you're simply looking for 2-channel (stereo) playback in which case you DON'T want to route the cables into anything other than 1 and 2.

Hope this helps.
Duh! I'm stupid.  Thanks for the quick reply as well!  You really do check the posts!  I added the mixer, and it works beautifully.
As a side-note, did you use any thing to sample marching drum sounds prior to virtual drumline?  I remember using a program called Drum Sequencer but it was way to labor intensive.  Anyway, just wondering.

Thanks,
Mike Wendeln, EKU
and sorry about the poor spelling!
