I think he's asking if he could use the trial version of Finale over buying 2006.

I don't believe there would be a problem using the demo version of Finale with VDL. However, you will not be able to save files. If the question is about using Notepad, the free download from Coda, then the answer is probably not. Notepar is very limited in features.
