Ledger lines

Good morning all!

When using finale 2005 and/or General Midi for combination
instruments, for example, I have noticed that when you input certain sounds,
the result is a note several leger lines above the staff, whether
you use a single or five-line staff.  Is there any way around this?
I use Finale 2006 and VDL2.  It's merely an aesthetic bother,
but it'd be nice to be able to avoid that.

Thanks!

Ah yes...the ";all named notes trick";. This is a little Finale glitch that will often help. Good call mcp!!
I've had this problem before with the Rack combo A.

You might have to go into the map (hit the edit button),
and click the button that says ";all named notes";. That did
the trick for me.
You need to make sure the staff in question is set to the proper mapping that corresponds to the combo instrument you're using. To set this, select your ";staff attributes"; tool, then next to ";notation style";, be sure the pulldown menu is set to ";percussion"; and click the ";select"; button. This opens the ";percussion map selection"; window. Assuming you are working within the VDL2 template, here you will see a long list of VDL2 mapped instruments. Click the selected map so it's highlighted, then click the ";Select"; button, and you should be good to go!
Are you using the VDL2 Templates for Finale?  If not, go to https://www.tapspace.com/updates/
