Finale Notebook is the FREE version that is downloadable from the website.  It is a great tool, especialy for free, and Im wondering if I buy Virtual Drumline 2, will it be compatible with this?  Also, if I don't own VD 1, can I buy VD2 and be set?

Are you referring to Finale NotePAD?  If you are , then no they are not compatible, sorry.

Also, you don't need VDL1 to use VDL2. VDL2 is a fully functioning virtual instrument including all sampled instruments within their own exclusive Kontakt Player.
