Is Digital Performer ever used to record Vdl2 stuff ?

Sure! You can run VDL2 as a plug-in within DP. It would be very similar to using any other multi-track audio/midi sequencing program as outlined by Jesse in the following topic:

Rather than using VDL2 as a VST, you'd be using it as an Audio Unit (AU) within DP.
