I have both vdl2 kontakt and sibelius on my desktop and laptop. My question is when I try to take a mulit setup from my desktop and load it into Kontakt on my laptop I get a samples not found box. I have tried saving a duplicate multi but to no avail? Is this even possible?

Check the path and volume names.

Since the VDL2 samples are encoded in the .nks containers this can be a little confusing. The best thing to do is to rebuild the Kontakt 2 database on each machine. Be sure it's set to locate instruments, multis, and samples at the very least. Once you've done this on each machine, when you see that ";sample not found"; message, all you'll need to do is click the ";search database"; button, and it will automatically find the samples for you. This is by far the simplest way to get around the dreaded ";sample not found"; message.

Let me know if you need further clarification.

Also, when you're saving a K2 multi, it's not a bad idea to UN-check the box that says ";absolute sample paths"; since the directory structure on each of your machines may differ some. This probably isn't a big deal if you use the 'search database' method, but it may be helpful if you're sharing your .nkm (multi) with a colleague using the same VDL2/K2 setup.

By the way, if you've already built your K2 database, there's no need to ";rebuild";, but instead just do an ";update"; which takes less time. If you haven't yet done an initial ";build"; of your database in K2, it's a good idea to for easier file location.

Will this work even if the filenames are named different? On my iMac my VDL2 samples and Wind samples are split into ";Percussion Samples"; and ";Wind Samples";, while on my new MacBook Pro they are together in a ";Samples"; folder. Do I need to rename the folders to be the same so they can share .knm files?

I don't think so, though don't quote me on that. As long as you have your databases (in Kontakt) up-to-date on each machine, and you haven't relocated any of your library folders, clicking the ";search database"; button should automatically find the samples.

There's one way to find out. :) Let us know.

Put the multi from my iMac onto my USB stick, did a quick rebuild database to be safe, loaded the multi and hit search database... everything worked fine.
