Playback Speedy Entry issues

Windows XP Finale 2005 1GB Ram, Pentium 4....

Prob #1 That is probably not of much concern, I tried to upgrade to Finale 2006 and it wouldn't even load but thats a whole nother issue... but it screwed up ALL my settings for 2005 and I've spent hours resetting them now so here are my issues:

Virtual Drumline sounds like poo even while just playing in Kontakt player... it sounds ";electronic or metallic";, and not all the options are there that were there before!  The only setting available under soundcard interface is  Direct Sound and there used to be another option...

The other issue is while using speedy entry in Finale it plays back 3 staves worth of sound ALWAYS:  Snare, Quads, and Glockenspiel.  The instrument list in finale is set to a different channell for each stave and virtual drumline is open in two instances with all channells being different.

Please help!  I'm probably just going to uninstall and reinstall VDL2 because I know the failure to install Finale 06 for whatever reason has messed it up... might that have something to do with GPO being a native instrument product messing with the VDL2 settings?

David - I don't think you'll need to reinstall VDL2. So hold off if you haven't already begun the destruction...just a sec.
Sounds like you're having issues with your soundcard. Do you know what kind of card it is? If you're hearing a sort of metalic sound from it, the sample rate (in the VDL2 soundcard window) may be set too low. It should be set at 44100 by default.

Interface (also in the soundcard window) - ASIO is usually the best bet (rather than Direct Sound). If you used to have the option to choose the ASIO soundcard interface, but now it's not there, it sounds like somehow your soundcard driver isn't being recognized. I don't know why installing Finale 2006 would have caused this, but for good measure, you may want to reinstall your audio drivers. Once you've done this, you should see the name of your soundcard as an available option in the ";output device"; field.

Regarding your instruments not triggering the correct channels, since you're running two instances, here's my guess. I'd suggest in the SECOND instance (and in the corresponding instruments in the instrument list) setting your channels in the 9-16 range. If that's not the case, respond back with a listing of what you have configured in your Finale MIDI Setup window, as well as the VDL2 MIDI-Input interface (setup) window.

One other thing - double-check to make sure Finale's MIDI Thru is set to ";smart.";

hope this helps...
Jim,

thank you for the speedy response... I've been having motherboard issues with the pc anyway and other wierd issues besides finale...  I have already uninstalled vdl2 and now the pc is totally hosed!  AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!

So i've begun the entire process again on my laptop... that pc needs to be reformatted now.  I'm gonna have issues at first with the laptop because of the lack or RAM (632MB) but its a clean start with finale and VDL2.  And now i'm mobile!

I'm sure I'll be posting again soon because its been about a year since I last installed VDL2.

WISH ME LUCK!

david
