RE: I can't get the china choke to work

Hello all,
My subject line does not refer to some professional wrestling move or the thing that cost you $49.95 at the massage parlor....

I can't seem to get the china cymbal choke w/mallet or choke w/stick to playback in Sibelius 3.  Every other sound on that set works fine, but the choked cyms. do not.
Anyone else run into this problem?  Are the keymaps the problem?  Is it me?

Thanks so much,
Carl Eppler
Hey Carl (Mr. Humpty)...

You should set the china to MIDI Yoke 1 (instead of 7). Those MIDI Yoke numbers sometimes confuse people as they are PORT numbers, each with 16 channels of MIDI). They are not MIDI channels - you want the China to be set to MIDI Yoke 1, Channel 7 and it should work.

Hope this helps!

PS - I merged this topic with the one posted in ";hints/tutorials";
It seems to be a problem with Sibelius.  I can hear them in VDL2.
I am using the updated version and a MIDI keyboard.
It looks like the noteheads are correct when I enter them, there's just no sound at that time or during playback.

Thanks,
Carl
Hi Carl,

Is the problem dealing with Sibelius or the library (i.e. can you play the sounds in the player/Kontakt but can't hear them when triggered via Sibelius)?

Are you using the most recent version of Sibelius 3 (3.1.3)?

How are you entering the music--via MIDI controller or QWERTY keyboard?

If you are entering them via QWERTY keyboard, you could press C for mallet and D for stick then sharp each note and hide the accidental.  I'm sure there is a better way to accomplish this, but it's what I came up with after tinkering around for a few minutes.  Hopefully you're using a MIDI controller :-)
Ok,
It's reposted over in tech. support.

I have it loaded on Channel 7, playing through MIDI Yoke 7 in Sibelius 3.  Also I have the ";all china"; sounds loaded, though I noticed the same problem on the individual chinas.

Thanks,
Carl

Hey Carl; repost in Tech Support.  You'll get better results.

On the China Choke, can you tell us how you're loading it, etc.?
