hey guys, i have a quick question here, i am using vdl 2 with sibelius but i am not using a midi keyboard. How do i set the mod wheel so i can use the tenor drums rim sounds, but also use the shot sounds. i havent been able to figure it out. Thanks
When you say modwheel, do you mean changing the MIDI controller C1 to the appropriate setting, or the physical mod wheel on your keyboard? That sounds like a strange problem.
Did you add the C1 message at the beginning as well?
I did change the modwheel back to the shot setting after i finished the dredlock phrase, but then when i played back the whole piece, all the dred notes were shots. I'm assuming i have to use midi messages to make it play back correctly, but i don't fully understand how to do that.
If I'm working on something that requires a lot of keyswitching or (for me more commonly) mod wheel changes, I'll go ahead and enter a midi command at the beginning of the piece so that when I go back to the top to listen to things, I don't have to manually move the wheel. I do find myself doing that when I'm in the thick of the piece, but it's a time-saver (at least for me) to enter my starting midi messages at the beginning.

You need to enter controller changes into the score (just like notes) so they are performed during playback. In Sibelius, you do this just by entering text into the score. In finale, use the MIDI tool or add a playback behavior to staff expressions.
