It took all of my might to keep this to myself until today.  Now that it is released I can say HOLY CRAP!!!  Sibelius combined with M-Audio, Pro Tools and Avid will make one fierce competitor to rivals.  Congrats to Jon and Ben Finn as well as the entire Sibelius team!!!

Wow....that is huge! I couldn't think of a better fit because I love the Digidesign/M-Audio products. I wonder if this will affect the Sibelius release cycle?

Not likely.  Sibelius will most likely still only release new versions when significant upgrades are made.  I do think that we will see some more updates as the software becomes more incorperated into M-Audio, Digidesign and Avid.  This is only what I think though.

Actually, I quite think it will affect their cycle.  All of that Kontakt powered stuff, I'd assume, is up in the air.

I don't really think there will be much of an issue with Kontakt.�� Avid and Digidesign are very cool about partnering with smaller plugin based companies.�� Pro Tools comes with a lite version of Reason, Ableton Live (which could be concitered major competition for Digi), and Melodyne if you buy the bundle package.

As a daily user and Digidesign certified operator of Pro Tools, this could be very cool.

All I care is that they make Sibelius ReWire2 compliant.  Then the ball game is over; it's all ";ease of use";, but the tools will be in place.  Frankly, it'd be really nice to be able to freeze synths within Sib.  All I want is a semi-decent midi editor function / piano roll within Sib, and rewire staff to track.  Once that happens, you can be audibly creative from within the sheet music.

There have been a lot of larger media companies buying smaller ones lately.  Avid has been purchasing a lot of good products but I worry that bigger isn't always better.  A lot can get lost in a bureaucracy.  Big business is often more concerned about profts than releasing a good product.  Sibelius is great because it improved while the big bloated Finale sat around, and now I'm a little worried.  I will wait to see what Sibelius 5 is like before I applaud another merger!
