How to work kontakt 2 into finale 2006

I understand how to use kontakt 2 with virtual drumline 2 but am not understanding how to use kontakt 2 with finale.  i sort of messed around with the midi yoke from information on the forum but I really have no idea what I am doing.  I wouldnt mess around with any of this but I need to use more than 8 channels that are give on the Kontakt player given with VDL2.  If this was covered in an earlier discussion I appologize......  I really need a walk through to get VDL2, Kontakt 2, and Finale 2006 to work together.

A great place to go to check on running Kontakt with Finale is the Finale Forums at http://forum.makemusic.com/, or you could also submit a question to Finale Support at www.finalemusic.com/support. Hope these links get your running with Finale and Kontakt. If you need more channels in VDLs you could also use one of the other banks in the VST Setup (17-32, etc.). You can open a separate VDL instance in each of those banks should you need mroe than 8 instruments.

https://www.tapspace.com/forums/index.php?topic=1109.0 you might want to check out this link to a Vido Tutorial on loading VDL sounds into Kontakt 2.
In addition to Scott's helpful suggestions, one concept you might wrap yourself around is that (similar to VDL2's Kontakt Player), Kontakt2 can be used in stand-alone mode OR as a VST/AU plugin. Since you mention you're using Finale 2006, hosting Kontakt 2 directly within Finale would be an option for you. Doing so would bypass the need to use Midi Yoke as the sampler would be accessed completely within Finale (negating the need to use a virtual midi cable to connect to the stand-alone version).

To access K2 as a plugin within Finale, the first thing you need to make sure to do is to copy K2's plugin to your FinaleVST folder (or...if you're using a Mac, the Kontakt2.component file should be in MacHD>Library>Audio>Plug-ins>Components). Once the plugin is properly placed, after you restart you'll see it as an option within Finale's Native Instruments Plugin setup.

Check out the tutorial Scott linked you to. It gives a basic visual representation of loading individual instruments as well as instrument banks (for when you need more than one instrument per staff/channel) into Kontakt 2 with VDL2.
Ok, I appreciate the helpful replies.

I have tried many things to get this to work.  Putting the Kontakt 2 aside and focusing on just understanding how to get more than 8 channels to work properly.

I have done a normal instance of vdl with a full 8 instruments and then pulled down another instance in the native instruments settings and tried to add some instruments but they did not work.  I changed the omni number to 9 to correspond with the previous Vdl instance but nothing worked.

I am working off of the template that was on Tapspaces web site, 2006 finale, and can only fill instruments up til the Marimbas.

Once I figure this out then I will try getting Kontakt 2 to work with finale, plus I am waiting for Finale tech support to contact me.

The second instance of the player will only receive midi signal on channels 17-32. Knowing that, in the second instance of the VDL2 player, you may want to keep them set to channels 1-8. Here's the important part: For those staves in Finale's Instrument List window, they need to be set between channels 17-32. So channel 17 in the IL window would be channel 1 in the second instance of the player. Channel 18 would be channel 2, etc.

It's a little confusing to grasp at first but once you see how the channels work, it's not so bad.
Wow,  cool..now it works.

Thanks Jim.

I am really impressed that you are dealing with the forums yourself.  Thanks for your dedication.
