Looking for an old 1970s video featuring the SCV drumline. I think the title of the video was called ";Precision Drumming";? It is a short documentary that gives a ";non-drummer"; explanation on each section of the marching percussion ensemble (Snares, tri-toms, Basses, timp-toms, cyms, pit). Fred Sanford was featured throughout each segment teaching the line. The tri-tom drummers in the video do a singles exercise starting slow and getting super fast! Blew my socks off! I saw it at a friend's house but never wrote down the title/producer of it to look it up again.
Recommend it be made available on the Internet so everyone can enjoy! Anyone know what/where this video is?
Yep, that was a classic, and before the days where anyone and everyone had instructional videos and DVDs of every topic imaginable. Hard to say whether you'll find it today, but try checking with McCormicks. I think they're the ones who produced it.

Thanks Jim. Checked with McCormick's and they remember the video, but don't know the title and no longer have the original. Oh well, if anyone else knows the whereabouts of this video, please make it available!

What Mondo Beyondo are you referring to?
There was a HBO Special that featured the ";Yes/No People"; (Pre STOMP), The Cadets and the Sunrisers. I was lucky enough to perform in this video as a Sunriser Snare. I have a copy and working on copying to a Web ready format.

I believe that's the one he's referring to. I have a dusty old VHS of it somewhere as well. It's one of the few videos from my younger years I kept because that Mondo Beyondo show (with Yes/No People) was so cool.
Check out some of Green's summer project videos here. I know you found them on your own but they are on his you tube project along with alot of other great videos. https://www.tapspace.com/forums/index.php?topic=1819.0
Have a great one.

Classic vids with Fred teaching SCV. McCormick's needs to remake these or incorporate them into history/evolution of field percussion.

The one thing I miss about the timps, and it's only one thing... You listen to the bass that bass drums had. It's a weird evolution, but timpani moved into the pit; definitely good. But then basses got pushed into being that ";baritone"; voice with the concert bass in the pit. The lowest bass drums keep getting higher and higher, and have really lost their punch. There is no real on-field bass anymore, and I miss it desperately.
They may still be 30"; drums on the 5, but only Spirit gets the depth anymore. I miss 32"; bass drums. I think back to the early 90's and can easily think about the range that basses had. They still have roughly the same range, but they're all up nearly an octave it seems.
I guess I am just waxing poetic on what was, but there was a time when you could really feel a solid 5. Now, you feel that concert bass. Meh.
