It's hard to believe... but we have one more drumline contest!
To make our ";ballad"; make more sense, we're using a clarinet soloist and a horn soloist. I'm just having a little trouble with wind noise in the mix. I read on here somewhere that someone had a way of ";eq'ing"; the wind noise out. If you have any advice on how to do that, I'd be THRILLED to hear it.
BTW, we have SM57's, a Mackie Mixer (overall mix, and hi-mid-low mix for each channel) and JBL mains. So, our gear is decent enough, I just don't have the information!
On the channel that the solo mic's are running through, try eq'ing out a little under 60hz.
Next, use a windscreen over the mic. You can pick up smaller ones that will fit the 57's, but you can also use a black sock as well. Cut off most of the sock except for about 3 inches from the toes, and use a rubbar band to hold it on the mic.
I have printed out your post about mixing and basic outdoor sound reinforcement to have on hand for future years so I can remember from now until then. MAN what a great resource to use. I have literally told dozens of people about that specific post.
Thanks again for all your help!

Justin -- thanks a ton for all of that information! I'm not sure how I missed your original post, but that was exactly what I was needing to know.

No problem, I'm glad I could be of some help.
On a side note, I'm working on a more detailed version of that with more diagrams and such. Look for that in a few weeks or so here.

Dave - thanks for asking. It went well. Probably our best show of the year. It didn't place well, but we were encouraged by the performance and we got to see some incredible lines. That's the REAL reason we go to this contest!
As for the mic'ing, thanks to tylerdurden's advice, things turned out really nice. It was kinda cool to have those soloists involved.
