2) INFO FOR INTEL-MAC-USERS: IS THE UPDATE FREE FOR ME?
Whether the Universal Binary Update is free for you or not, depends on the date you registered your product for the first time.
* A) If you activated your product before September 12th, 2006 the update is not free. You can download the update here, but you won't be able to activate it. Please buy the Universal Binary Download Update in our Online Shop! You will then receive a new Serial Number, which is required to complete the activation of the update. * B) If you activated your product on September 12th, 2006 or later - Free Download and free Activation! Simply download the update via the Update Manager, follow the installation instructions below, and re-activate your product with the original Serial Number you received on purchase.
If you do not know whether you activated your product before or after September 12th, you can check online:
* Go to our registration web-page www.native-instruments.com/register.info * Select ";View and manage your registrations"; and log in * In the list you will see all your registrations and their dates. The date of the FIRST activation is the relevant one.
3) HOW TO INSTALL ON INTEL-MACs:
* A) Manually copy/install the content (Sample Library) from the original CDs or DVDs (see your manual). * B) Install the Universal Binary Update Version on your Intel-Mac. Make sure to set the same library path that you used above in the update installer. * C) Activate the product using the included ";NI Service Center"; Application - DO NOT use the ";Registration Tool";! If you purchased the Universal Binary Update (incl. a new serial number), enter the new serial number in the NI Service Center when prompted.
4) UPDATE REQUIRES ACTIVATION!
* With this update Native Instruments introduces a new and much more convenient activation and update manager system - replacing the old ";Registration Tool"; * Whether you install the PC or Mac version, the software will run in the new ";Demo Mode"; after installation. * Simply launch the new ";NI Service Center"; Application which came with the update installer, and follow the instructions to quickly and easily re-activate your product. * After you complete this new activation for the first time, all following free updates won't need a new activation. * More Info on the NI Service Center: www.native-instruments.com/servicecenter.info

You know, it also adds a big registration thing... I'm not seeing anything that's worth getting the update, short of maybe the new DFD file. I'm not sure how well it works; I haven't pushed it. But hey, if it ain't broke, take a close look at what you get for it and see if it's worth it...

Would this mean by chance that VDL:2 will be intel compatible here pretty soon? (Though I do have to say it runs fine under rosetta.)

To clarify - there will be a forthcoming update that is universal binary. There are still many steps for us to take to make this happen, so in the meantime, the best solution is to load VDL2 sounds into Kontakt 2.2. There will be more news on this update as details unfold.

It should be mentioned that Native Instruments is now requiring Mac users to be on OSX 10.4.x for the Kontakt 2.2 update.

It makes a huge difference! I've loaded a full battery and pit score with everyone playing and the CPU usage hasn't gone above 4 bars!

I haven't been on this forum for quite some time. I've been able to solve most of the issues that I come across with my set -up. ....but in about a week I'm getting a Mac-Pro with the Intel Quad core 2.88GHZ processors and 4 Gig's of ram. I read some articles in audio enginering magazines about the Mac-Pro's and these very issues that have been posted about Sibelius and Kontakt. i justed wanted to say thank you for this info. before I get my new Mac. I have Kontakt 2 and will be sure to purchase the update.
