Recording Problem with Sibelius, VDL: 2, and Ableton Live 5.2.2

Hi!  I am a PC user currently trying to record an audio file using VDL: 2, Sibelius, and Ableton Live 5.2.2, as per Jesse Mattson's excellent tutorial.  However, in the piece I am trying to record, I have a number of metric modulations, which are written in Sibelius 4 as metronome markings.  When I open the .MID file in Ableton Live 5.2.2, the tempo changes do not play back.  Is there a way to export audio from Sibelius 4 so that it plays back with the VDL: 2 sounds and still plays the tempo changes correctly?  Thanks!

Hey Charlie,

Nice to see another UK guy on here (besides me, Ralph, & Josh that is)!

Certain programs will not change tempo information automatically.  Most cases you need to set this manually, which should not be too much of an issue.

Congrats on using Ableton.  One of the most intuative a creative pieces of software I've used.
When I first started using Logic, I had a similar problem with tempo changes not being recognized when I played an imported midi file. The Logic solution may have absolutely nothing to do with Ableton Live's treatment of MIDI files, but here's what I learned in Logic.

If you ";import"; a midi file (using the import command), tempo changes and time signature changes were not retained.

If you ";Open"; the midi file (using the ";open"; command), tempo changes were brought into the tempo track as Jedi described above.

May have no bearing on your particular situation ,but for what it's worth...
Hey Charlie, I just switched over to Ableton Live (because it came free with some of my M-Audio gear and I really like it) and here's a solution for you:

You can change the overall tempos with the Master track.  You can use the pencil tool (ctrl+b) to draw a break point or double click on the tempo line and tweak from there.  I'm not sure yet how to enter exact numbers, but you can find more answers at the ableton forums.
