Hopefully someone can help me out, I looked forever to see if this had been posted before and didn't see anything, so pardon me if this has already been asked...How can I get a general midi, electric bass sound to play through Finale while using the VDL 2 midi sounds? I'm running XP, Finale '06, and VDL 2. I'm assuming there is a way to load this soundfont into the Kontakt Player, but I am clueless. Any help is greatly appreciated!
You can only load VDL:2 sounds into the player. Can you run your bass through your default soundcard and your VDL:2 through the player? I assume you can do this in Finale, I know you can in Sibelius.

With the use of a Virtual Midi Cable, like Maple Midi, you can open the Standalone VDL Player and load your sounds and then use Finale's SmartMusic SoftSynth to play your Bass sounds.
In Finale
[li]Go to Midi Menu -->Midi Setup[/li] [li]Set your Finale Midi Outputs to be using the SmartMusic SoftSynth 1, 2, 3.... for which ever chanels are to be using the regular Finale Midi sounds. For example - you want your Elec. Bass to be on Channel 4. Channel 1-16 would be SmartMusic SoftSynth 1[/li] [li]Set your Virtual Drumline Channels to be using Maple Midi 1, 2, 3, ... as your Output Devices. For Example - you may choose to have your VDL sounds start with Channel 17 - so your Channels 17-32 would be Maple Midi 1. Every group of 8 sounds would need to start another Bank of sounds (17-32 = Maple Midi 1, 33-48 = Maple Midi 2, etc) because the player can only hold 8 instrument sounds. Maple Midi can have up to 12 ports.[/li] In your Standalone VDL Player [li]Go to the File Menu -->Setup[/li] [li]Click Midi[/li] [li]In the Midi In Section click the ON/OFF until Maple Midi is set to be on for that specific port[/li]
You should now be able to hear Finale Midi sounds playable with VDL sounds. If you choose to use something like your Creative soundcard then you may notice some Latency issues and you would need to adjust the latency numbers to make the two line up. I hope this helps. I can attach some screenshots or a quick video at a later time if need be.

I am using a midi keyboard with an m audio midi to usb. I am not using maple midi because I can set my sounds to USB device or something like that. This may be my problem...If you know how this can be fixed, it would be greatly appreciated.

-Shawn
Your midi keyboard/interface has nothing to do with your midi outputs from Finale. It's your INPUT device. You shouldn't be setting your Finale MIDI Outputs to your USB device. Set that as your Input, then re-read Coach's steps for using a virtual midi cable (like maple or midi yoke). This ";virtual midi cable"; will allow you to connect Finale to the VDL2 player. Both progams would be running in standalone mode simultaneously.
There is a video on here that will kinda walk you through the settings, Shawn. I did the best i could at the moment to make this as small as possible. This will play in Windows Media Player.
