Problems installing DFD extension

I just installed VD2 onto my new macbook and I have been trying to install the DFD extension.
1) I've read all the posts that say to download the extension and then open the options in VD2 and make adjustments from there
2) However after download, it won't open and install so I moved the file into the same folder as VD2 hoping that would  make a difference no luck
3) I've downloaded DFD several times and each time I get the same message when I try to open it. The computer asks for an application to open the program and I can't seem to figure it out
Thanks!
Any ideas ?

4) Also, I know I need more ram which is on the way
5) in the mean time I'd like to downloaded the DFD extension so I can at least run some battery sounds
jcdawg - i'm not sure, but I think you may be getting confused between downloading and installing. When you download the file from the internet, you are downloading an installer which will install the DFD extension. When you run the installer, it will place all necessary components where they belong. Once this is complete, the next time you launch VDL2, you should see some ";direct from disc options"; in VDL2 when you click the ";options"; button.

Once you've successfully installed, you can just trash the file (the installer) that you downloaded.
Jim,
Thanks for the speedy reply. I do understand that the DFD extension you download is just an installer, however when I download the extension and then click to run the program this is the message I get:
1)Safari can۪t open the file NI_DFD_129_OSX_Installer.sit۝ because no available application can open it.
Then I tried opening it from my desktop and I get another error message:
2) There is no default application specified to open the document NI_DFD_129_OSX_Installer.sit۝

Before I got my new macbook I ran the DFD extension fine on a P.C. so I'm not sure what is going on.
Thanks again for your help,
Josh Crosby
Josh - now I understand what you're getting at. The .sit file is a compressed archive. Before you'll see the installer, you must first decompress the .sit file. Macs used to handle these automatically, but since it's obviously not doing that, you should probably download the free Stuffit Expander program at:
http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/download.html

Once you've installed Stuffit Expander, just drag that .sit file on top of the Expander application icon and it should automatically unstuff the installer.

That is weird that the Mac doesn't automatically ";unstuff"; the file.  Is that a new intel thing or what?  Anyone know?
Jim,
Your the man. It worked like a charm.
Thanks,
Josh
