Hey guys I finally got my VDL 2 working. I have a quick question. After I put in all of the notes when I play it back all of the note values are doubled (i.e. If i have quarter notes written then it will playback sounding as eigth notes). I have Sibelius 3, 1 GB of ram, and a Keystation 49e. Am I missing something? Also do I have to select anything for the output interface in the VDL setup display? Any help would be awesome.
That sounds odd. My guess is that VDL2 may be receiving midi from more than one source. To help correct any possible incorrect settings, please completely list the following:
In Sibelius: 1) All settings from the Devices window 2) The settings from the mixer window - particularly the ";device"; and ";channel"; settings.
In VDL:2: 1) In File>Setup>Midi - what are all the settings under ";input interface"; and ";output interface?"; 2) In File>Setup>Soundcard - what are all settings?

Hey Jim I figured it out. I had my latency too low and it was playing back double of each sounds for some reason. I have some other quick questions. When I'm using my modulation wheel to try and go back and forth between, say the four options on tenors (shot, dread, rod, rim) that you can use the mod wheel for, its not switching back and forth between them. The same with the snareline going to edge, half and center. Is this maybe a problem with my keyboard?
Also when I play back the music, there arent any dynamics. Any ideas? I think there was a post on here about that, that I'm still looking for.
And is there any way to map additional sounds to another instrument (i.e. add a floor tom to the vibraphone mapping)?
I don't mean to bombard with all the questions and I'm still looking around the forum to see if I can find out for myself. Thanks for the help.

Are you writing the C1 (Controller 1) changes into your score?

Can you elaborate? By dynamics, do you mean p, mp, mf, etc? Or do you mean hairpins?

Not without the full version of Kontakt, and even with that, there's a learning curve that you may not want to wrangle with. There was a topic on the forum quite some time ago about the possibility of offering an instrument customization service for such occasions, but I can't quite remember how that progressed. You may find it easiest to load up a rack combo into VDL, then create an ossia staff on your vibe part in sibelius, assigning the ossia to the channel the rack combo receives on.

No worries. That's what the forum is here for. In the future, just start a new topic for each question so others can more easily learn from your asking.
Good luck!

With the dynamics, its mainly the hairpins. But sometimes like with the dreadlocks it gets really loud or when I want a piano buzz roll I have to mark it at forte to hear it. The other dynamics are usually good. I probably sound like an idiot but how do I write in the C1 changes into the score?

Hairpins applied to phrases with accent patterns will take a little manual tweaking from you, mainly using the Live Playback Velocities feature in Sibelius. Just a limitation in Sibelius that might hopefully be improved someday. There's a topic discussion here about this: https://www.tapspace.com/forums/index.php?topic=1080.0

I'll take that as a no. :) That's ok. If you've never done this before, it may not be the most obvious thing. Luckily, it's really easy to have Sibelius send controller changes like this. Check out this post: https://www.tapspace.com/forums/index.php?topic=1204.0
You're asking good questions so you're obviously on the right track. As you'll see from above, often these questions have been asked before, so do some searching around the forum, and you may find answers more quickly.
Have fun!

Hey Jim thanks for the help with the hairpins and stuff. I wonder if that got fixed in Sibelius 4. I looked through the posts you had talking about writing in the mod wheel changes. I put them in the score but somehow when I want say a dead note on beat 2 of a measure on marimba, the expression (~C1,33-64) gets applied to the entire part and not just the one note I want. Do I need to write another mod wheel change before the dead note so that it plays open notes or am I just missing something?

Write ~C1,44 for deadstrokes (or any value between 33-64...don't write 33-64), then write another controller command (~C1,1) when you want it to return to regular notes.
