MIDI and playback problems..........

Ok, so in page 16 of the user guide, in the audio setup, it talks about the input and output boxes of the MIDI tab. What do I do if there is nothing in the input interface box. Do I need to worry about this? I downloaded quickstart file for finale 2006 and followed all of the instructions. Is this the only set of directions I need to follow, or do I have to use the directions out of the book? If someone could point me to the exact pages in the user guide on how to use virtual drumline with finale 2006 that would be super rad. I have aligned the MIDI channels between VD2 and my finale instrument list.  I have read the user guide a lot and think I am doing everything correctly, but it is not playing back. I see the keys moving and the green light moving, but nothing plays back in finale. I can get a few snare sounds to play, but I can't get the other quad and bass sounds to play at the same time. Can someone help me please.......I am not very computer savy, but I can get around it descently.

Calvin,

Finale 2006 was released after the VDL2 user guide was printed. So the setup information in the Quickstart Guide would be  most helpful for getting up and running. Keep in mind, there are two ways you can use VDL2 with Finale 2006:

In standalone mode (meaning, you're running VDL2 and Finale simultaneously as separate programs, and they're linked by a virtual midi cable)

or

As a VST (pc) or AU (mac) plugin

For most people, running as a plugin is most convenient as the host (Finale) will retain any settings you've made to the VDL player (instruments loaded, any knob adjustments, etc).

With that in mind, I would recommend you try using as a plugin. Follow all the steps in the Quickstart (carefully) and that should get you up and running.
Thanks for the quick reply Jim!!! I have one more problem. I talked to Bill Castillo about this and he didn't know what was up with it, because he said it worked for him. The problem is that I have everything set up and I can hear the sounds for the snares, but not any other instruments. I tried the quad sounds and bass sounds and I couldn't hear it when I entered it, nor could I hear it I tried to play it back. Only the snare sounds played. Also, when I use my virtual MIDI keyboard, it will play the sounds, but will not enter anything into finale.......I don't know what the deal is and I really want to start writing some new warm ups for my winter line. Any more suggestions?

Your virtual keyboard may need to use a virtual midi cable to connect IN to Finale. It might look something like this:

[b]Virtual MIDI Keyboard  OUTPUT >--------midi yoke (or maple) port 2---------> Finale INPUT[/b]

Regarding not being able to hear your tenors or basses - I have no idea without knowing what your midi settings are (in finale and in VDL2). You should list your channel settings (or better yet, post a screenshot). Also, make sure in Finale, that MIDI Thru is set to ";smart.";
ok, I have the screen shots ready, but I don't see the option to paste them here...............I clicked on botht the insert image and tried to directly paste it. That didn't work. Sorry I am being a royal pain........
To post images, you need to host them on a web server. I think there are some free image hosting services out that you could upload them to, then past the link into the 'insert image' code here on the forum.
In the Virtual Midi Keyboard, you will need to click the [glow=green,2,300]SETTINGS [/glow] button and then choose the Midi Output as your MidiYoke virtual Midi Port. While in Finale you will need to choose your MIDI INPUT DEVICE as the same port that your Virtual Midi Keyboard is using in the settings. Here are some screenshots, although they are using Maple Midi - but it is the same idea.  Also make sure that [glow=green,2,300]MIDI THRU[/glow] is checked in the Midi Menu so that yo can hear sounds as you enter the notes.
