Major distortion in VDL2 Sounds.

I have VDL 2 hooked up with Sibelius 4 and am on an iMac os x.  I just got about every thing set up correctly ans playback was fine untill i tried to write a full battery and pit score.  When I have something written on mostly every staff i would start to hear a crackeling sound and then the sounds would pop and i'd loose  all sounds for about 5 minutes, then try it all again but get the same result.  I got advice to maybe move the release knob on some instruments.  I did that and the same thing happened but things also got worse.  Now for just typical battery scores when every instrument is playing i get a bad crackeling sound and its distorting everything thats supposed to be played back. The only difference with just the battery is that it takes alot longer for the sounds to completely shut off, but they eventually do.  The problem mainly happens arouns unison bass drum hits with all the other instruments playing but it happens other places too. When i play each individual instrument the sounds are fine and i get no distortion.  I really dont know what the problem is because i never got this on my PC, so if any of you have an idea i would really appreciate the help!

G5 or Intel iMac?
How much RAM?
What are all settings from the VDL2 soundcard window?
Are you using DFD?
If using DFD, what are your DFD settings?
When adjusting release knob, are you increasing or decreasing release lengths?
Are you using lite instruments when possible?

Which version of the VDL2 instrument library are you using?
The latest is available from http://www/tapspace.com/updates
Intel iMac
2 gigs RAM
Settings in the soundcard window are as follows
Interface: CoreAudio
Sample Rate: 44100
Output Device: Built in Output
Output Latency: 8 ms

I dont know what DFD is so i guess that probably mean i am not using it.

The only instruments i have adjusted the release on is the vibes medium lite, and it is set at 0, so decreasing. The snares, tenors, and basses dont seem to have that particular knob.

I use the lite instruments on everything i can.

I am also using the latest version of the VDL2 library. V. 1.5

Today when i was writing for just Snares, Tenors, and Basses i noticed that when my tempo was higher the sound distortion and crackeling became worse quicker and shut off the sounds much faster.  So the only way i have been able to hear what i write without the messed up sounds is at a tempo of 90 or less.

Your latency is set very low. Try increasing it to around 40ms, and let us know if that helps.

Once our Universal Binary version is released, it will also help you performance on the intel Mac.

For now with 2gb RAM, don't worry about installing DFD just yet.

If there are terms discussed here that you are unfamiliar with (like DFD), you can always do a search here or on the FAQ page (https://www.tapspace.com/support/faq). If you do some digging through old posts, you'll be amazed at how much you can learn here.
