I wanted to make a comment to see if I have missed something, or if this is a bug in Finale. I am hoping to hear back from Finale later today or Monday.
I created my own drum mapping for VDL2. While the Tapspace one works very well, I like my notation a little different. especially for the Snare drums, Quads, and Basses. I spent about 4 hours getting the Drum maps set up. While trying to work on the cymbals, I realized the one from the VDL2 Template would work well for me.
I went to the file menu, hit save library, named it VDL2 Tapspace Maps.
Opened my file, and hit load library from file menu. Went to view the tapspace Cymbal map, and it was blank. All of the notes were checked, no note heads, staff placement, or names were there.
Checked the ones I created, and same thing. All were blank. 4 hours of work lost.
Has this happened to anyone else? If not, be careful, do some tests on some other files before you get going with this! If someone has run into this, is there a way to undo what has been done.
I'll check this out. However, it may be easier to take the existing templates and adjust the keymaps to fit your preferences rather than attempting to create new maps.

You are probably right! But I was thinking I would start from scratch. Wasted 4 hours.

I have already done a complete song without using the VDL2 template provided and everything has gone great until now..... I am trying to write for a marching cymbal section and I would like to use notes for individual players (like a marching bass line) F space for player 1...A space for player 2 and so on.... I would like to use the B line for a unison also. The problem is when I do this I get all of the wrong sounds because of the normal VDL2 marching cymbal keymap doesn't line up that way. So I have three questions 1) Can I copy the cymbal staff part from the template to my current composition? If so, How? (I've tried the basic mass edit tool) also 2) If I need to adjust the keymaps to fit my preferences how do I do that?
Or 3) is there an easier way around all of this? Maybe I should change the way my cymbal line notation is written?

Hey Jon!
I'm not a Finale user anymore (another thread for another day...), but to get the individual cymbal parts you want, I had to completely rethink my scoring. I have five cymbal players, so I chart for six staves -- one is a composite staff that I write for the ";finished"; score later.
Then I go in and set each player up as their own channel. I'm using Kontakt 2, so I have lots of space to do this in. I see you are using two instances of VDL, so you might want to invest in K2 in the future. Come to think of it, VDL:2.5 might help, too.
Set up each player for the different cymbal sound you want. Then when you are writing, use the solo sounds instead of the ensemble sounds. When the parts aren't too independent, I write a lot for the ";odd"; three and the ";even"; two, so to save time, I can copy and paste.
When you are done with the score, record the track. Then, you can go back and create your composite staff to look anyway you want it to. I thought this would be pretty time consuming, but with copy and paste and the simplicity of Sibelius, it might have taken ten minutes on a 3 minute opener.

Thanks for the help Eric! One more question for everyone.... for now.... As I stated earlier I was not using the Tapspace Finale Template so now when I am entering the sounds that I want for cymbals it shows up really low or really high obviously. Is there a way for me to copy the cymbal staff set up/percussion map from the tapspace template into my current score so that the part looks right or do I need to do something else. Technically I could continue doing it the way I am but I feel like there is probably a more feasible way to make it look good.

You can do this by:
1.) Going to the FILE MENU -->SAVE LIBRARY 2.) Check Percussion Maps 3.) Give this a name like ";My Cymbals";, etc 4.) Go to your other document 5.) File Menu -->LOAD LIBRARY and then choose the library that you just saved
This will load it into the choices of Percussion Maps that you have.
