Playing back more than 8 voices

I recently installed VDL:2 on my PC (w/ about 1 gig of RAM) as a VST Plugin in Finale 2006. I loaded 17 instruments, but I can only hear the first 8 when I play the score back. I don't have any problem loading all the instruments; I just can't hear the ones that are assigned to channels beyond 8. I've looked in the manual and done searches on the forum, but nothing has really answered my question.

Since the second instance in Finale is supposed to route through channels 17-32, you'll want those instruments to be directed as such in their settings in the ";Instrument List"; window. To avoid confusion, be sure to realize that:

In the second instance:
Finale channel 17 = VDL channel 1
Finale channel 18 = VDL channel 2
Finale channel 19 = VDL channel 3
etc...

MIDI channels typically work in banks of 16, which is why you only see 1-16 in VDL. This is ok as long as you realize the above convention in how Finale handles its midi channels. So whichever instrument you have set to channel 1 in the second instance of VDL, should be set to play back through channel 17 in Finale's instrument list window. Make sense?

N/M I just figured out that I can multiple instruments on my mixer on the same channel
That was the problem, and I can hear all of the instruments fine now. This is starting to make some sense. Thanks a lot!

Ah - now that's a different question I think.  Cool.

So you have 17 instruments...  you can only hear the first 8.  Did you assign the second instance to Channel 9 or such from within the second instance?  Did you assign the Finale staff to the second instance?

I may have to let the Finale experts take this one...
Bear with me, I'm a little new at this and forgive me for any stupid questions. The FAQ said to load VDL:2 as a VST Plugin. That is what I did, and I can load multiple instances of VDL:2, but I just can't hear the instruments assigned to channels beyond 8.
