Max Quality? + Request

Are there certain settings I should use in VDL2 for maximum Audio quality? (Like when doing a mix down in logic)

Also, any chance for Steel drums to be added to a future update?
VDL is a 16-bit, 44.1k library, so increasing your various audio settings isn't going to buy you much more quality. I think you'll find that spending your time slightly tweaking EQ levels, and adding a little global reverb (try some of the presets in Logic's Space Designer), can go a long way toward giving you a better mix. Still, the best tool will be your ears. Mixing is an artform all its own.

We aren't announcing any official details yet about the VDL update, but it shouldn't be too much farther off hopefully.
Does changing the DFD options  enhance a mixdown?

No. DFD settings are usually only tweaked to ensure your instruments are streaming properly. If you get CPU spikes, or hear pops/clicks, it could have something to do with DFD not streaming sample data from your hard disk quickly enough. If you're using the VDL player, be sure you have a high enough number in the ";reserved voices"; field to ensure you don't hear any voice stealing or clipped decay.
Thanks Jim :)
Jim,

Were the samples in VDL2 EQed? Normalized? Or are they Raw audio from the instruments?

It depends on the instrument. Off the top of my head I can't remember which instruments were processed in which ways, but any treatments were intended NOT to enhance the live sound, but rather to give you the most 'real' sense of standing in the room with the instrument. So if you did want to enhance your mix, some EQ'ing would be normal. You might also find if you're trying to get a 'hot' mix you could experiment a little with some limiting or compression.
Thanks! I'll keep experimenting! I'm not looking for a particular ";sound"; at the moment, but just looking into what sounds are possible. Thanks for the help!
