Is it possible to write the marching snare part with a ride cymbal on the same staff using the VDL2 sounds?  For example, if I was writing a jazz arrangement.

Check the keymap diagram for the marching snare instrument in the VDL user guide. You'll see that ride cymbals are indeed mapped to the full/lite snareline instruments. So....yes. :)
