Bootleg video footage of a Carter drum solo. Should be called a study in hertas. I particularly dig around the 3 minute mark the voicing of the hertas. Good stuff...
Yeah! Anybody catch that special on SNL in the 90's on TV last night? They showed that clip from DMB's first time on the show and I remember my brother sitting there going, ";who the crap is that drummer!? He's going to be HUGE someday!";
That section where he's playing the 5/16 hemiola symmetrically from right to left is straight out of the Terry Bozzio videos!
Sweet!

That snare/cymbal herta voicing has been a carter trademark and signature for years. To prove how effortless it is for him, pick up Listener Supported - its a DMB live dvd. Carter does the Hertas while blowing bubbles with his gum.
Yeah, it's disgusting. lol

Awesome solo . . .
A friend of mine (Robbin Thompson) wrote a song with Carter Beauford and Clarence Taylor, called ";I Won't Quit (Till I Get Home)"; . . . slow blues.
Carter plays drums on the track, Butch Taylor is on keys, and Robbin sings lead.
The song was in the film Fighting Temptations starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beyonce Knowles.

I was thinking about who would win in a drumming-while-blowing-bubbles contest between Carter and Dennis Chambers...

I don't know who would win that ";drum battle"; but I do know that I would pay BIG $$$ to see it live!

I've probably seen the Dave Matthews Band more times than anyone else here. (20 times in the last 8 years. I had to find something to do with my summers after aging out.) and I've always been amazed by Carter. His drumming is so busy, yet so tasty.

Ok you've got me beat. Admittedly though, I've only seen the band 2 times in the last 4 years. 18 of those time plus 1 Dave & Tim show was done between '99 and '03. Unfortunately I just got burned out on the experience and rising ticket prices.

Haha. Understandable gbass. They're just the one band that I can see all the time and not tire of whatsoever. Everyone has a band like that.

yeah, its definitely not really their music per say but the environment I was seeing them in. I reached a point where I was enjoying myself more by seeing bands in a smaller environment like Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Galactic, and Particle. It really just turned into a preference of the atmosphere of a small club over a large amphitheater. To me, its so much easier to connect with a band's music in the smaller environment. I can only imagine what it would be like to see DMB in a smaller venue.
