Kontakt 2?

Hello all,

I just recieved Kontakt 2 in the mail today.  My technical ";lingo"; is virutally non-existant.  I am currently installing Kontakt 2 and I am coming to the question of which options I would like to have installed:

Kontakt 2 Standalone application
Kontakt 2 VST Plugin
Kontakt 2 DXi Plugin
Kontakt 2 RTAS Plugin

I do not know what a VST, DXi, or RTAS plugins are.  I want to use Kontakt in conjunction w/ Sibelius and VDL2.  Which boxes do I need to check, and could some answer or point me in the right direction about what the plugins are and how a non-technical savy person could learn more about it.  Thanks

Jeremy
Hi Jeremy,

Standalone Application - The standalone application should be installed and you can communicate between Sib and the standalone via virtual midi cable.

VST Plugin - should be installed if you want to host an instance of Kontakt 2 in a program capable of hosting VST instruments like Finale 2007 or several others. I think Sib may not be capable of loading VST instruments so you may need to go down the standalone / virtual midi cable route. However if you like, you can use other software programs to host virtual instruments like V-Stack.

DXi Plugin - should be installed if you want to host an instance of Kontakt 2 in DXi format programs like Cakewalk Sonar.

RTAS Plugin - should be installed if you want to host an instance of Kontakt 2 in Pro Tools.

I personally would only install the Standalone & VST plugin if my HD capacity was limited. If I was not too concerned with HD capacity, I would install all plugins.
Thanks so much man!  I'm excited to get this running and get to playing with it.

FYI, did the library take forever and a day to load?  Thanks
Also, don't forget if you're feeling ";lingo challenged"; that your VDL User Guide has a Glossary in the back of it that briefly explains these terms, among others that will probably be helpful for you to know along the way.

And, Fletch, you will be tested over these terms at a later date, so get your flash cards ready and start studying!
As long as I can use the cards on the test.  :)
