Garbage Cans

Jim,

I am writing a novelty piece for concert band entitled ";Garbage Can-Can"; and wanted to know if there is a sound I can use for garbage cans?  Or , have you ever thought of adding this sound?  I know there are several percussion ensemble works out there using garbage cans.

Thanks,

Dennis
Hi Dennis,

Actually, this is already in VDL2. In the ";Effects"; folder, chose ";Trash Can.";

If you need varying pitches, try loading several trash cans, then slightly altering the pitch and panning on each one to make it sound like multiple instruments.
Might I also recommend, for some ideas, listening to the Rowloff catalog of Trash Can material?  I recently performed ";Stinkin' Garbage"; from their collection with my percussion ensemble and the auditorium exploded.  It was such a hit that we were asked to perform at about 8 local functions over the next 8 months.

Garbage cans = surefire hit at concerts.

Good luck and let us know how it comes out.  I'm especially interested!

Dennis, any word on your chart?  I've just finished one myself that I'm about to start Sibelius-izing and VDL-ificating.

So true.  Several years ago I threw together a stomp-ish thing in a couple hours and it was a bigger hit than anything else I've done.  It was a skit about the drumline cleaning up after the band.  Simple beats + cans, buckets, and brooms = standing ovation.
Haha, I have video of that around here somewhere.
nice stuff...
Now, we just need to expand the Trash Can sound to include spackle buckets and neighbor cans.
Astonishing.
one man's trash [can]...

(sorry, cheesy I know)

Hi,

I just saw your post.  I sent it to Barnhouse and had no luck.  Ever since they got Robert Smith with them, he has brought in several friends from both Warner Brothers and Alfred.  I kind of got pushed out and haven't resubmitted with another publisher yet.

I might be trying again soon.
