Sib. 5/VDL upgrade?

Jim,
a further question on Sib.5 and the impending VDL 2.5....

Sibelius is offering a discount on purchasing a ";full version"; VDL with the Sib. 5 upgrade
(a.) will that ";full version VDL"; be 2 or 2.5, and if it's ver 2,
(b.) your site says that ";There will be a very small DVD processing fee for existing VDL:2 users who registered prior to April 1, 2007."; How about those of us who purchase VDL through the Sibelius offer?
many thanks, looking forward to getting VDL

Hi Bill,

Sibelius will be selling VDL 2.5. We're racing the clock and doing our best to have production done asap so they'll have it available soon. Since our release is partly hinging on the last bits of encoding from Native Instruments, some of this timeline is out of our hands, but it is in the pipeline, and should be available very near the ship date of Sibelius 5.

If you are already a VDL2 user and would like to upgrade to VDL 2.5, you can only do that directly through Tapspace. The ";small processing fee"; spoken of for VDL2 users will be very modest (less than $20) and would make much more sense than purchasing a brand new full version of 2.5, even if it's discounted.

We're excited about this, and hope you'll enjoy using VDL. Thanks!

Sounds like NI is getting pounded with things from Sib, Garritan, and Tapspace. And I wouldn't doubt a have a dozen more.
Jim,

Will the templates currently being used for VDL2 be included with the Sibelius 5?  Or, will we need to get the template through the website here?

Thanks,

Dennis
I will be doing an update for Sibelius 5 for both the forum as well as possibly updating some of the one's that will actually be included.

Or at least that's what I think I'll be doing.
Bill-
I was talking to Larry Marchese (Southern Sibelius Rep) and he said that since VDL 2.5 will now be sold directly by Sibelius as well, the templates will all be integrated into the program. That way, You can just start a new score, without having to use the template (as well as applying it to existing scores! It will also intelligently assign instruments, and I believe, get rid of the need for banks in K2. You can now just type in an instrument switch, and it should work. Also, you can see the level of integration with VDL already... look at the mixer, and choosing Sound IDs. The choices for marimba look rather familiar... hard, med, soft mallets, as well as rosewood/ synthetic, and shaft hits, etc. The reason it doesn't work right now is because they didn't included the VDL2 sound sets, so you have to do it manually right now, and it's not Kontakt 2 Player compatible... yet.

Matt
Sounds pretty sweet!

Jim,

Thanks for your quick (and thorough) response. I've taken the plunge...receiving VDL:2 tomorrow (a project due before this week's out!)  I'll register my ";:2"; and get on the list for ";2.5"; and look forward to it.
Thanks again,
