I was just sitting here and i started to think about something...? Will VDL2.5 be easily compatible with files created with VDL2? I know the overall interface is changing, but does that mean that files will have to be updated to work with the new player?

As I understand it, yes...

That is correct. All instrument mappings have remained the same. A few instruments have some extras, but all VDL2 mappings are in tact. So anything you wrote for VDL2 mappings will play correctly with VDL 2.5.
