Hi all,

I am a new user of VLD and just purchased VDL 2.5. I have been using Finale for many years and like many of you, have files that were previously created. I am very excited to learn and use VLD 2.5 but am not exactly sure what to do first! Do I tailor the Finale template for me and then copy and paste my old files? I really want to hear the files I created using the VDL sounds.

I have been reading posts here, reading the manual, visiting  suggested websites and absorbing as much as I can. I'm sure the answers are here but I am feeling a little overloaded!

For your past Finale files you can use the Finale soundset from VDL under Combination Instruments from the Load menu. From now on though... to take full advantage of VDL, I would suggest downloading the latest Template for your system from here:  https://www.tapspace.com/updates/ . Then use individual instruments such as snare lite/full, tenor lite/full, etc. You'll need to get familiar with the instrument maps provided with VDL manual, but you'll get used to it pretty quick. From there you should be set and rockin with VDL. Peace...

Finale files created without the VDL templates will not playback correctly because of the percussion maps built into the templates. It would be easier to create new versions of these scores using the templates. Templates for VDL2.5 are available for Finale versions 06 through 08. The templates themselves can be modified to meet you own needs. So, it is possible to delete the front ensemble staves or add additional staves. Methods for doing this can be found in the Finale manual. Stay in touch and let us know how everything goes.
