I have a brand new Dell running Vista, and I'm using Sibelius 3 with VDL 2.5. I had no problems with playback volume on my last computer (was running everything the same except it was XP instead of Vista). Right now, if I have the volume cranked, I can hear it OK. This is with the Sibelius Mixer pretty much maxed as well.
Is there any other ways to boost the sound in the playback? Is this because of Vista? Everything else works perfectly.
Have you tried moving the sliders for each instrument in the Kontakt Player 2? This might help you here. Especially if you click on the GEAR for each instrument and then click CONTROLLER and uncheck ";Accept Standard Controllers for Volume and Pan"; which should allow you to have more control over the volume slider on the VDL instrument.
might want to check the WAV level in your computers volume controls as well.
