Using Virtual Drumline 2.5 with Sibelius 5

I was originally using VDL2 with Sibelius 4 and Kontakt 2, but I have now upgraded to VDL 2.5 and Sibelius 5. I need someone to explain to me in detail how you would go about using multiple instruments in one line (EX: Marimba switching to a triangle to a concert bass drum, to a water gong?). In Sibelius 4 it was simple because all it took was a program change for Kontakt 2 to recognize the switch.

I don't know how this ";Instrument Change"; feature works. How can you load 20 instruments into one line if there are no instrument banks? How can you playback all the instrument changes in real time?

Can someone please explain to me in detail what I need to do?

This somewhat ties in to your previous post (please read Jim's responce again): https://www.tapspace.com/forums/index.php?topic=2024.0

Please refer to your Sibelius Reference on pages 316-318 and read up on SoundWorld.

Once you figure out how this is designed, you will find that you won't have to open Kontakt Player 2 at all (when used as VST plug-in in Sibelius) - and maybe not even the Mixer for that matter. I strongly believe that if someone learns how all this works, including using Staff Text for all their MIDI messages, they will have almost no need to do any more ";set-up"; and find the workflow to be very, very efficient.

You are actually not going to have to do anything other than make the Instrument Change you want on the staff. Once you have done this, hit the Play button and the appropriate patch will be loaded into Kontakt Player 2 for you automatically. The slot will be assigned automatically as well (do you really care exactly which one this is?). From there, input notes as usual.

You will be able to load as many instruments as you wish into a staff* and Sibelius will do everything else for you (as long as you have enough instances of KP2 activated). No more program changes and such - all you have to do is add or change an instrument and start writing.

FYI - To fully access the VDL Library in Sibelius 5 you will need the Template, which is currently still in developement. As you have no doubt read, this is a very large project and will otherwise be released as soon as possible.

* I am not currently aware of any limitations to the number of instruments you can have on a single staff.
