Kontakt 2 help

I have the marching snare drum loaded as my instrument, and I can see the highlighted keymap on the keyboard. When I hit a key, I get piano sounds instead of the drum sounds. How do I get the correct drum sounds.
Ideally, you should avoid using stand-alone mode if you're using Sibelius 5. Still - that would explain why you're not hearing correct sounds. In order to use VDL in stand-alone mode, you'd have to have a virtual midi cable (like Midi Yoke or Maple) set as one of your active devices. This is not the recommended way to work in Sibelius 5.

Now that Sibelius 5.1 is released, you should download and install that as they have made several bug fixes that should help you and the VDL 2.5 sound set included with contains many important fixes.

The original suggestion holds true though. De-activate your Microsoft GS device from the ";Active Devices"; window.

Thank you for supplying some details. If you're hearing piano sounds, it's probably because Sibelius is choosing your Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth as the playback device. Remove that from the ";Active Devices"; section, and you should have better luck with VDL instruments being selected. Are you using Sibelius 5.0 or 5.1?

I'm using 5.0, kontakt works fine as the sib. plugin, I was having the piano problem in stand alone mode. I'll keep playing with it. I did not mean for this thread to go this way, just understand that I'm a 1st timer, and don't quite understand the lingo yet. Most of my problems are my own user error. But that's how we learn, right?
Thank you Jim.

Ok, In repsponse to Jim's post

In the playback window/ active devices tab;

available devices= kontaktplayer2
active devices=1.Microsoft gs wavetable synth, type=midi, soundset=general
            2.Kontaktplayer2, type= kontakt, soundset= VDL 2.5
configuration=Sibelius Essentials (16 sounds)*

I have not done anything to the the manual sound sets, preferred sounds and effects tabs, left them as they were.

In the Performance window;

Espressivo:Senza Espressivo
Rubato: Meccancio
Rhythmic feel: Straight
No reverb, unslurred notes =100% of written duration.

Kontakt player in Sib. Mixer
Libraries= sib sounds ess. and vdl2.5
*snareline autorl, tenorline autorl mw ks, bassline manual mw ks, cym line 16in

This is a far as i can go for now. As far as the sound card settings, I don't have a clue. I did download the asio4all driver and have it on my desktop. Have not installed it yet.
* my playback is choppy. I switched to snareline manual and the rhythms were perfect and not choppy, but it was loud and didn't sound like a snare. Just wanted to throw that out to, I hope this helps.

Sorry for your dissatisfaction. The template will be ready when it is ready. Now that Sibelius 5.1 is out, good progress is being made on it. But an official date will not be released as there is no guarantee we will be able to meet that due to potential fixes that may be needed in the sound set. I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but if your question is ";When will a template be available?,"; there is no definitive date we can give you. Just know that it's a priority for us, and it is moving in a positive direction.
I see you are trying to make a ";point"; yet the question still remains unanswered. We often times seem to avoid the actual questions being answered and change the subject to something of less importance just as you did with my ";gramma"; even though you understood that perfectly fine. And just as an FYI (for your information) to make clear for you I am an excelling college student and have yet to have any issues or educational concerns with my professors regarding grammar, etc.

Back to the question at hand, I do understand and appreciate your working on creating a template for us Sibelius users to utilize and yes it is true that if we cannot wait we can choose other avenues, but my concern is that when you give a date it is courteous to others that you keep them informed even if you are doing something for them per say.

And as I recall, these blogs were meant to help others not ";show up"; or ";show off"; yet all the blogs seem in some funny way to attack people who have problems and make remarks about their comments/concerns. But since we are being frank and not holding our tounges. For ";professionals"; who are suppose to assist Sibelius users, some of you are not offering any assistance at all, but for those of you who are ";willing"; to assist does anyone know when the template is expected?

Im with Arseno the fact is if you knew what was wroung with the ";new car"; could we still be able to help him because the truth the template is still not available so we can say what we want to, but NO ONE can give the answer to that. So until we get an answer other than soon he is right. It was wait until sibelius 5.1 comes out its been out since last wensday I called today the don't even know that update is out. and the person I talked to said that they were getting ready for PASIC, and every body who is saying be patient all have sib. 4 and vdl 2 so you guys stuff work but for us who have the ";new car"; THAT DOESN'T work dont tell us dont worry you guys stuff work. So when someone answer when the template are coming out then we wont worry.

What Jim said...
In the sake of consistency, I'd like to remind you (snaretech) to please abide by the Forum guidelines and take just an extra minute to make sure you are speaking (typing) in clear English. Posts like yours are grammatically unreadable and don't help your cause if you expect people to take you seriously. They also run the risk of being deleted.

Here's the deal. If we didn't go to the trouble of offering a template for free, you would have to set up your VDL instruments in Sibelius yourself. There is nothing stopping you from doing this right now! The Sibelius documentation extensively covers the new concepts of SoundWorld. If there is something about SoundWorld you do not understand, either read the documentation more carefully or take up your gripes with Sibelius. The template we're working on is a courtesy to VDL/Sibelius users. We would kindly ask that you extend us the same courtesy by being patient in waiting for something that we don't really have to even offer. If you're tired of being patient, then I'd encourage you to update to Sibelius 5.1 and start building your own instruments from scratch. Go for it! The functionality is there for you, so don't let our timeline stop you.

I have done everything I can think of on my end and have no solution. yes, I am very frustrated and have a legitimate reason to be.

I 'll say it again, I need help, and have a right to be frustrated.

Arseno, you have continued to say you have a problem and need help.  Equally frustrating to us is that you haven't told us the details necessary to give you that help.  Yes, you've spent your money on these things, but now you have to spend your effort in getting some skill with your tools.  We're here to help, but we cannot see or hear your computer, and we only have what you type as a reference.

To continue Jim's reference, imagine you had a broken car.  If you get on a car forum and say ";my car isn't working, and I have a right to be frustrated, etc.";, you won't receive much help until you say HOW your car isn't working, and what you TRIED to improve the situation.

I'd really suggest you read https://www.tapspace.com/forums/index.php?topic=1410.0.  Then give us a killer post on what you've done, step by step.  If you do, I guarantee one of us volunteers can help you find the difficulty you're having.
Arseno - please list the various playback settings you've made within Sibelius. I don't think you'll get much help if we can't tell what you've set things to.

Also - you may not really need to use Kontakt 2 at all. VDL 2.5 comes with Kontakt Player 2, which is built on the same engine (minus the programming capabilities). It might help if you stuck using Kontakt Player 2, and being certain you've correctly assigned your desired sound set within Sibelius's ";playback device"; section. If any of this has confused you, it's probably a good time to take a deep breath and check into your Sibelius manual as these will be important things for you to understand if you want to drive your new car.

As others have stated, please keep things civil here. Based on your initial post, it sounds like you haven't gotten up-to-speed with Sibelius yet (still learning to drive that new car...). Beginner questions are certainly welcome here, but most of what seems to be frustrating you is Sibelius related.
Guys,

Look I am not attacking anyone. I simply need help with a problem kontakt 2 and the piano sounds. I've created a trouble ticket with NI and the sent me here. I have done everything I can think of on my end and have no solution. yes, I am very frustrated and have a legitimate reason to be. Don't bash me for that, again this is simply a cry for help. I've dished out a lot of bucks for these programs and I want to utilize them to the fullest. What if you bought a car and it's parked for 2 months because you weren't clear on how it operates, but you know how to drive? That's all I'm saying. This release was premature due to the pending template and the new playback system.....I understand this...but, I bought this because of what I know it can do for me. I know I have the good stuff. I 'll say it again, I need help, and have a right to be frustrated. Maybe later on in this thread I will be saying my bad, my frustration was premature, and I should have been more patient, this thing is the bomb and slap myself. I do see this in the future. But...... I stress this point........I need help, piano sounds in kontact 2 with snare keymap. I want snare sounds with snare keymap. That's it and that's all...for now.
VDL is a sample library that works with many different programs.  Notation software is made by different companies.  The fact that there are added templates to work with Sibelius or Finale is a bonus that other sample libraries don't do.  Don't get all hissy about Sibelius completely changing their software for version 5, and definitely don't blame Tapspace for what another company does.  Also, if you knew basic recording techniques, you could easily get around the delay in a Sib 5 template and still make scores and audio recordings.  So that's reason #2 not to blame Tapspace.  Getting a piano sound when you choose a snare instrument is a huge indicator you're too impatient to read the manual for both VDL and Sibelius 5.  Reason #3 not to blame Tapspace.
Also, Arseno...

If you have been reading about ";promises"; and such on this board or elsewhere, then would it not be safe to assume that there is not a solution to your problem, unless it has been otherwise noted?
