Key switching with Sibelius 5??

hey I dont know how to use VDL almost at all.  Really new to me...but as I'm using it I'm getting more familiar with it.  I'm having a hard time about changing mallets for tenors/mallet instruments.  I'm also sure that theres probably another thread asking the same exact question, but couldn't find it.....so......if anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it.

I don't recall there actually being a previous post regarding this topic, but a good question none-the-less.

The VDL Sound Set is designed to use a sound ID change to trigger the puffy mallet sounds for the TenorLine and BassLine instruments. In fact, all of the instruments that have Keyswitch type sounds will operate this way - and most of the Modulation stuff too.

This would be entered into the score via a Staff Text command that you would have to have defined in the Playback Dictionary. A corresponding staff text command would then be used to go back to the regular mallet sounds.

You may or may not want to try to figure all this out on your own, but when the Template is released, all these items will be pre-defined and explained in the documentation that will accompany it.

Does that help at all?

thanks!  I understand it a lot better.  I'll try it out.  it usually takes me a couple of hours with messing around with it until i get it but hopefully not that long. thanks again.
ya it didnt seem to work.....well I went to the playback dictionary and added ";Puffy Mallets"; into it but none of the sound IDs say puffy mallets or n/e thing of the sort.  All they had were brushes and rods....I'm not sure what im doing wrong but i guess when the template is made it should work?  I'm not really understanding much but hopefully I'll get it soon...I'm the new guy.

Yes, the sound ID that you have to use is not in the drop-down menu list, you have to type it in manually. However ...

What I suggest you do at this point - and for anyone else in a similar boat - is spend some time in your Sibelius Reference and ramp up your knowledge of how this all works (I am going to guess that you have done at least some of this already). Start in the Index toward the end of the Reference and read the topics that you feel you will need to be privy to. From there you can do some experimenting in the program.

The Template won't be released until everything is working properly - and that ";everything"; is a whole lot of stuff. But when it is released, I think that you will be quite pleased with your new tool.

So like I said, please dig into the Reference and get a leg up on your homework and learning curve.

Oh, reading this thread might help too: https://www.tapspace.com/forums/index.php?topic=2044.0
