Finally after months of being busy, I thought I would tackle the Sibelius 5 issues that I have with VDL 2.5. About 1 week ago, I downloaded the 5.1 update, and today I sat down and created a score from scratch to help with this issue.
I was able to create a score, and was able to get all of the mallet parts to notate and play back properly. When it came to the snare staff, I went to edit the instrument. I created my own VDL 2.5 Snare, and began plugging in noteheads and staff placement. However, after only doing RH and LH Hits, I went back to do a test. While I hear the sounds coming out of Kontakt 2 (stand alone), no notes get inputted on the staff. I move down to the glock, and notes input there, back to the snare, and no inputs.
Does anybody have a clue as to what is going on? This is so frustrating. While Sibelius may seem easier than Finale, it certainly is becoming a pain in my @$$. I only bought Sibelius years ago, to quickly get things down on paper. If I was going to publish stuff, I would use Finale. This is getting frustrating!
Your immediate problem with the snares might be that you don't have the correct sound IDs assigned to the noteheads that you have mapped. ??
Feel free to play around with making a few instruments on your own. But you may find your time better spent on other things - at least until the Template is released, which will be as soon as possible.

Also, you'll find that mapping your own unpitched percussion instruments in Sibelius (using ";edit instrument";), will be much easier if you've preconfigured your Sibelius preferences to show PROGRAM NAME rather than SOUND ID. This is a new feature of Sibelius 5.1. Select it by going to Preferences, then clicking the ";Playback"; section. Once you've done this, the ";best sound"; field (in the staff type designer) will show you the name of the actual sounds rather than the long string of sound IDs. Much more helpful that way!
The 5.1 update from Sibelius came with one that has most of the instruments set up correctly. There were about 20 instrument listings in the XML file that needed additional changes.
So far the final Template testing we are doing is going very well.

At this point, the release is mainly dependent on the sound set. As Hugh mentioned, the Sibelius 5.1 sound set for VDL 2.5 is mostly in tact. However there are several modifications which have been made to that which will be essential to things working effortlessly. To hopefully avoid confusion, we're trying to make this sound set universal, but if we can't have our modifications hosted by Sibelius, we'll plan on including the updated sound set with the actual template file and hope to make it available this week (barring any last-minute glitches). Big props are due to Hugh who has gone above and beyond in making this project happen. It's been a very in-depth process which he's been handling masterfully.

Glad to hear that Jim,
I am sure the template will be inline with th high standards of Tapspace.
any unforseen glitches? or can we anticipate a long weekend ahead of checking out the sweeet VDL:2.5 and sibelius combo?

We need just a few more days guys. I think it's really close, but there are a few loose ends that need tying up and we plan to have this released (hopefully) in the early part of next week.
This is one reason we don't like to put a firm date on these types of things. They tend to be very fluid in their development, and as things change, timelines aren't met, and we don't like to disappoint people any more than this delay already has. There's not a simple way to say ";when"; on this type of work. Hang in there, and we should have something in your hands very soon. Thanks again for your ongoing patience.

Forgive me for this thought, but if it is taking this long to get this going, then wouldn't a fair assessment be that Sibelius 5's playback system is screwed up. I have used both Finale and Sibelius for many years (Finale for almost 17, and Sib for 9) and I have never been more upset with an upgrade in my life. This playback issue has more problems than what it is worth. Sibelius 4 had no problems, and for the most part playback worked well. I haven't really used Sib 5, since all I really do with it is VDL 2.5 stuff. That means I wasted money for an upgrade with features I wanted, because I can't get the playback to work.
I am hoping the template Tapspace is working on will be great. I do have one question, will it be editable? I am probably one of the few, but I like my regular snare notes to appear on the C space (3rd space) as opposed to the A space. In the past, I went through the Tapspace template, and fixed what I needed to. Will I be able to do that with this?

No, the playback system is not screwed up. It is just ... different. Read my most resent post in the following thread to maybe give yourself an idea of how detailed this project has been.

There will be a few mapping guidelines you will have to maintain, but other than those, you will be able to do whatever you want.
Regarding the Snares' notehead placement, the regular snare notes are already on the C space, the solo notes on the B line, and the snares off notes are on the A space.
