Im having a really strange problem with the VDL in Sibelius.
heres the story.
1. I bought Sibelius 5 with Tapspace VDL included. 2. I had problems with the bass lines mixed up note sounds but i updated my sibelius to 5.1 which fixed it perfectly. 3. everything was fine for about a week 4. I start a new piece, but when I loaded my drums, it loaded ";snareline manual"; instead of ";snareline autorl"; 5. I ponder, ";hmm but im really comfortable with AUTORL, so i'll just change it in the Kontakt Player"; 6. I change the snare line from manual to autorl 7. I play it and I hear no sound from the snare line 8. I check the midi keyboard in kontakt player to and it looks like its playing one single key, but that key is not used in snareline. 9. I play the correct keys in the Midi keyboard and they give the correct sounds. for some reason, when i press play, it just plays the wrong key. 10.I do it to all my music, and the 1-9 happens with all of them.
If you are using the template, I'd encourage you to view the tutorial screencasts that explain the best way to ensure Sibelius automatically assigns correct instruments. This information is also covered in the README file that came with the template.
In short, you should no longer manually load instruments into Kontakt Player. Instead let Sibelius load it for you. In fact, try to fight the urge to even open KP2 any more. Correct functionality will require these things.
1- you're using the template 2- you've updated and assigned the VDL sound set to ";Tapspace Virtual Drumline 2.5"; (rather than the one that came with 5.1) 3- you've correctly assigned the desired ";Instruments"; in your score. 4- all items are set to (auto) in the sibelius mixer.
Again - for further clarity, carefully watch the videos, and be sure to read the README that came with the template.

There's no template for sibelius 5 Mr. Casella,
I just checked. But heres the update i got about a week ago to fix my bass line
I have looked at that. but also keep in mind that I just spent around $300 for sibelius and I cant buy the full version of virtual drumline so i cant update it to 1.5
Im pretty much broke.
But I highly doubt that buying the full version of VDL will be the only way to fix it, because it working perfect last week.

Jojo - take a breath or two and back up a step or two...
The 1.5 update you mention is for VDL2 users only. It will do you no good unless you already have VDL2. Don't let the numbering confuse you. 1.5 only pertained to the library for VDL2, not necessarily the software player. This is redundant however, because VDL2 (regardless of library version) is not really supported in Sibelius 5. In order to have full VDL functionality and support in Sibelius 5 (or 5.1 as the case may be), you would need to use the full version of VDL 2.5.
In trying to decipher your messages, it sounds like you're just using the ";Essentials"; versions of the VDL sounds that came with Sibelius. Is this correct? If so, I'd recommend contacting Sibelius help center for further assistance.

Thanks Mr. Casella
yes i'm using the ";essentials"; version of vdl.
and i've tried contacting them
but they could care less actually.
Its just a downer that i spent a lot of money, on something that would go hectic on me so quickly. so if in the future i buy VDL 2.5, the full version, will it be compatible with sibelius 5?
and i've also been trying to figure out how SNARELINE MANUAL works.. but it seems that i need a MIDI keyboard to actually make the right and left sounds. is there another way without the MIDI board? because I dont the like way it sounds as if everything is played on one hand

From what it sounds like, the software isn't ";going hectic"; but instead you may not be setting things correctly from the Sibelius end. You are learning a new skill. With that, having patience and an open mind will help ensure that you continue to hone that new skill. With the proper understanding of how to use this new skill, I think you'll find that your investment in Sibelius will not be a waste. It depends on how much you focus on developing your skills with using it as a tool.

Don't sweat any of the issues you are having right now. I am pretty sure that you did not do anything at all to have ";messed up the settings";. Like Jim said, you are fairly new to this whole VDL thing and you have a ways to go in your learning curve.
After my cursory look at the file you sent me, I am surprised that you didn't have more problems than you did. The note mappings in the default battery instruments are unchanged - and this is actually causing the problems. Once you write a bunch of stuff for the Tenors and Basses, I won't be surprised if Sibelius starts to load the manual versions for those as well.
From what I have gathered so far, you will want to use the manual versions anyway. But the current way the instruments are setup won't accommodate the left/right items (missing notehead entries in the instruments' mappings).
My suggestion at this point is this: Spend some time in your Sibelius Reference looking up and reading the topics you think that you will need to have part of your knowledge arsenal. A couple sections you may want to pay special attention to are the Edit Instruments and Percussion topics.
After you have read the PDF file that the link above refers to, go ahead and make copies of the battery instruments you want to edit and start modifying things per the instructions. This may give you a better chance at the results you want.
And yes, a MIDI keyboard will be very handy with whatever sound library you are using - even though you don't absolutely need one just for the manual input. Put a keyboard on your ";wish list";; you might want to throw VDL 2.5 on there as well. ;)

For the record...every time some puts the link to get the Template it is wrong. I have not seen it at all under updates. You have to find it under Tutorials. Does anyone else see this, or am I missing something.

Robby, I think you're missing something. The ";updates"; page is correct, and does contain the link for the template.
If you're not seeing it, maybe you need to click ";refresh"; in your browser. The template is the thing that says VDL 2.5/Sibelius 5.1 Template and Sound Set. You'll see a link to a .zip file which will download it directly to your computer.
