What's included in Sibelius 5 WITHOUT a VDL 2:5 purchase

Hello.  I'm brand new here and looking at purchasing VDL 2:5, but I'm having trouble figuring out what I already have  as part of the Sib 5 Sound Essentials pack.  Can someone enlighten me or point me to where that info may be?  I am specifically interested in the Auxiliary Percussion sounds for front ensemble.  I'm a recent Finale-to-Sibelius convert and I'm used to the one sound set with all of the voices in it (claves, triangle, bongos, BD, gong, cyms, etc)

Thanks....the sound sets are phenomenal...I can't wait to get rolling!

After following your instructions, I was able to load and hear the sounds in the Aux Combo, but I CANNOT get that sound set to load into a Sibleius staff and play back correctly. It keeps switching to ";Rock and Pock Modern Rock Kit"; and playback sounds like a drum set. Any thoughts?

It sounds to me that the instrument you are trying to use has sound IDs in it that point more toward the Kit, which is why Sibelius is loading that patch.

Here is something I pulled from one of my other posts:

";My suggestion at this point is this: Spend some time in your Sibelius Reference looking up and reading the topics you think that you will need to have part of your knowledge arsenal. A couple sections you may want to pay special attention to are the Edit Instruments and Percussion topics.

This might help too: https://www.tapspace.com/forums/index.php?topic=1968.0

After you have read the PDF file that the link above refers to, go ahead and make copies of the battery instruments you want to edit and start modifying things per the instructions. This may give you a better chance at the results you want.";

Even though the above refers to the battery instruments, you should be able to do the same thing with the Aux stuff as well.

I have no idea if this will help you or not, but it is the first thing that came to mind regarding your ";Any thoughts?"; question.

Hi Steve - welcome to the Tapspace forum. We're working on creating a quick reference that will tell you exactly what you're looking for, but it's not near ready. The best way to check out the ";Essentials VDL"; that were included with Sibelius 5 is to just see for yourself. To do this, open a score in Sibelius and assign a playback configuration that uses at least one instance of KontaktPlayer2.

Then, go to the Sibelius mixer and click the VI button at the top of the mixer. Down near the bottom of the mixer, you'll see your KontaktPlayer2 slot. Click the little ";gear"; icon to access the player window. In the KP2 player window you'll see a library item in the left-hand column called ";Sibelius Sounds Essentials."; Click the ";Instruments"; button, and you should see a hierarchy of diferent folders that come within Essentials. If you go into the Tapspace folder, you'll see 15 instruments that have been derived from VDL. That's what's included. There are well over 200 instruments in the full version of VDL 2.5. Just as important, is that if you load each of these instruments they have less sounds included within the drum map as the ones in VDL 2.5 do. Try loading up the instrument called VDL Sib 5 Aux Perc Combo then clicking around the KP2 keyboard to hear the various sounds that are assigned to it. There's also a listing of the Essentials sounds in your Sibelius documentation, but sometimes just hearing them is best. These instruments were designed to be functional, though if you do decide to dive into the full version of VDL 2.5, you'll see how much more there really is. You can view the full listing of VDL instruments (but not maps unfortunately) at this link:

Also, if you haven't checked out the new Sibelius 5/VDL tutorials, those might be helpful to you as well:

Good luck!
