First of all, I would just like to thank Jim and everyone else at Tapspace for all the work they have put into this project!
Here are my system specs.
Intel celeron d 3.4 ghz 1gb ram plenty of hd space sound blaster live value (non-ASIO) running vdl 2.5 on Sib 5.1
I am having some issues with playback, and things are just generally too slow. I understand there is a lot to load, and I am running the k-mart version of Pentiums. Frankly, I can deal with the loading times if I could only have clean playback. I am running 35 ms latency, and when I increase it, I start to lose voices. I am using Direct Sound right now. Things got even worse when I used Multi Media.
Basicly, I was just wondering if I can get some input as to what may need to be upgraded. Is it more important to have a better processor, or an ASIO compliant sound card??
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me. John MacFarland has been helping me with all the setup and tweaking!
Hi dschmatz - welcome to the forum! I think you've already hinted at the likely cause of your playback problems. Your Celeron processor is likely struggling to keep up with all you're asking from it. As you've found, technically the software will ";work"; with a Celeron, but as the VDL System Requirements outline, a Pentium 4 (or preferably higher) is required to be very productive. You may want to take a look at this very general overview of Intel processors: http://kb.wisc.edu/showroom/page.php?id=4927
Your audio interface probably isn't helping much either, but I'd start by making plans to update to a machine with a faster CPU.

Jim,
Thanks for the (quick!) input. I have a core 2 duo on the way. I had been thinking about upgrading for a while now. This is a great excuse!
Right now, I am able to play battery scores alright, but I am having one issue with the tenors. When I open a score, I can click on any of the tenor rim shots, and it gives me the right sound. But as soon as I play the score, it gives me the same rim click for every tenor rim shot, and then when I click on them when it's not playing, I now get the rim click all the time, even on the staff type editor. Any suggestions?

Can you check what noteheads are giving you this behavior? Also which exact tenorline instrument are you seeing this on?

Hey Jim,
Sorry for the late response. This was happening with #1 note heads, and with all of the tenorline instruments. When I use the default noteheads, everything works fine for the most part. I have a few issues every now and then, but it usually just resolves itself. I originally had tried adding a few noteheads to accommodate my older scores that I was trying to import, and that's what was causing me problems. I thought I had made sure to not duplicate any, but maybe there was something clashing. Anyways, I guess my question to you is what are the steps I would need to take to edit the noteheads so they are customized to the same ones I have been writing with for years. This is not a huge deal, actually, but it would be great to know.
I am having another issue that John was looking into for me as well. I am getting all pedaled notes in the vibes no matter what vibe instrument I am using. I realize this question may have already come up somewhere else on this forum, so I am going to check that right now. I just thought I would throw that in while I responded.
Got my new CPU up and running and things are playing back great!

Which version of the vibes are you using the ";MW"; versions or the ";PED"; versions? Depending on your preference, they each work differently. Since many people prefer most their vibe parts to have sustained sound, many use the MW vibes, but if you'd like to be more literal with pedal markings and such, use the PED vibes instead.
