First of all I would like to say that as a recent converter from Finale to Sibelius, I am completely blown away with the ease of using VDL with Sibelius 5.1.
I am having a problem with roll play back in the marimba voice of my score. I am getting the multiple MIDI attack sound rather than the sampled roll sounds that I should be getting. I read the extensive ";read me"; file that came with the template[which is awesome by the way] as well as watched the tutorials, but I am still having no luck.

Hi Espy... can you tell us what you're doing to get the roll? Are you talking about when you put the tremolo, it plays like sequential 32nd note block chords?

Hello John, and welcome to the dark side. :)
It sounds to me that - in the Sibelius file you are working in - somehow the Playback Dictionary ";lost"; the settings the 4 and 8 tremolos need to have to properly trigger the sampled rolls. This could have happened if you imported a House Style that had different settings. Or, if you exported the House Style from the Template, and then imported it into your current score, you might have missed a couple of the check boxes in the import dialog.
Regardless of what happened, here is what you need to make sure to have setup in your Playback Dictionary:
Again, both the 4 and 8 tremolos need to match the picture above for them to function properly.
Let us know if this doesn't fix it.

I am still having problems getting the roll sounds. I had already double checked the articulation tab under dictionary and everything seems to be correct.
To clarify, I was just adding the tremolo to play the roll. The sound that I got was the 32nd note MIDI playback.
Any ideas?

In Playback Devices, do you have any active devices that have anything other than the Tapspace Virtual Drumline 2.5 sound set assigned? Note, this is different than the Virtual Drumline 2.5 sound set. To be certain, it should say ";Tapspace"; in the name of the assigned sound set.

Hello Jim,
I found the problem. Some how the I had accidentally selected Marimba Synthetic Birch instead of the Synthetic Hard. Obviously this wouldn't allow a roll since its not really possible. My bad. Thanks to everyone who helped me, and sorry to waste everyone's time.
