I have Finale 2006 and VDL 2.5 loaded on my PC. I followed the instructions on copying and pasting the KontaktPlayer2.dll into the Finale VST folder. When I try to play the Native Instruments through 2006, this message pops up: ";This document has been saved on Macintosh to request an Audio Unit plug-in named: Native Instruments: Kontakt Player 2 on Bank #1. On your current platform, this band will not have a plug-in loaded on it unless you choose one from the VST setup dialogue."; How can I fix this so that I can use VDL 2.5 in Finale?
Ron - this message is simply due to the fact that Finale on Windows uses the VST version of KP2, and on Mac it uses the AU format. Sounds like the file you're trying to open was saved on a Mac. All you need to do, is activate the KP2 VST plugin by going to the Native Instrument VST Setup option (in the MIDI menu). Once you've activated the plugin, you'll be able to load the various VDL 2.5 instruments directly into Kontakt Player.

Ron,
There should also be an FAQ on this subject as well on our FAQ site. let me know if you have trouble finding this. I will do my best to make this easier to find
Thanks for the quick replies. I've read over the FAQ but I am still unsure how to go about changing my template to playback the sounds through my Kontakt player in Finale. I also went to the VST Setup option in Finale to try to activate the plug-in, but the Kontakt player was not an option. What are the steps that I have to take to fix this problem?
Thanks,
Ron

Check out the ";Getting Started Guide"; that came with your copy of VDL 2.5. On page 18, it discusses how Windows users must first install the Kontakt Player 2 VST Plug-in into Finale's ";FinaleVST"; folder. Until you do that, Finale will not be able to see the plug-in.
Reading your first post, it sounds like you did that already, but if you're not seeing the Kontakt Player 2 plug-in as an available option in Finale's VST Setup window, it sounds as if maybe that file wasn't placed in the correct location. Keep in mind, Finale 2006 isn't officially intended to use KP2 (but rather Kontakt Player 1), but reports have showed that it's possible on Windows. There's a FAQ about this at: https://www.tapspace.com/support/faq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=4&id=46

I re-copied and pasted the KP2 plug-in into the Finale VST folder, but it still is not working. I've read over the FAQ, but still did not help. Any further suggestions?
Thanks,
Ron

Ron-
Maybe you can start by giving us a few bits of information in addition to the information that you have given us already - thanks for that info.
1. When you go to the MIDI MENU -->NATIVE INSTRUMENTS VST SETUP, what items show up in the drop-downs when you click on it? 2. If KONTAKT PLAYER 2 shows up, click on this and do you see VDL 2.5 on the left side?
Kontakt player 2 should be able to be run from within Finale 2006 on PC computers - but not on Mac. Bt, what Jim said is correct. 2006 was not designed to be used with Kontakt Player 2, but it should show up as an option and work fine.

When I go to the Midi Menu-->NATIVE INSTRUMENTS VST SETUP, Only Finale GPO shows up in the drop-down menu. I've re-installed VDL2 and tried from the beginning again, but it's still not coming up. I've copied and pasted the KontaktPlayer.dll into the Finale VST folder, but still got nothing.

If you launch KP2 in stand alone mode do you see the VDL bibrary on the left of KP2?
It is always best to launch KP2 in stand alone mode to register the libraries directly with NI
A couple of additional things to check:
1. With KP2 launched in stand alone click ";Help"; then ";About KontaktPlayer..."; You should see version 2.2.3.003 This is very Important! 2. If you have the correct KontaktPlayer.dll file saved into the Finale 2006 VST folder, you may have to do a full system re-boot before Finale picks it up

When I launched KP2 as a stand alone, the version said 2.2.2.001... How would I go about changing it to 2.2.3.003?

Hi Ron,
If you run the NI Service center and log in, you should see available upgrades for your products. Alternatively, you can log into the NI website, log in and check the download section under support as that typically has a more comprehensive list.
The 2.2.2.001 is a relatively unstable version of KP2 but was required for a long time for Finale GPO (at least on F2K7). They eventually had an upgrade to bring it up to 2.2.3.003.
It would be worthwhile to also check on the Finale website for updates.
One thing you could try would be to copy the KP2.dll (version 2.2.2.001) out of the original folder it was in and save it somewhere safe. Then re-load VDL2.5. During the installation, the SW will not find the KP2.dll and will copy the latest from your VDL2.5 DVD to your PC.
The only downside, is that I am not sure the Finale GPO sounds will work on 2.2.3.003 but it should get you up an running with VDL2.5

I am having the exact same issue as the one mentioned in this thread. After finding this post I started to update my software but for some reason I can't get KP2 upgraded to 2.2.3.003. I have used to NI service center (and their website) to download the only update available (about a 53mb file). After installing the update multiple times and rebooting my computer, it still says the version is 2.2.2.001.
Anyone have any suggestions?
My specs are AMD 3600+ with 2gb ram, sound blaster audigy platinum sound card

You may have installed the 2.2.4 update, but if you haven't manually copied the KontaktPlayer2.dll file into the FinaleVST folder, Finale is probably still accessing the old version of the player. This dll file is the VST plugin, so it's important that you copy that, and paste it into Finale's VST folder. Usually the current version of the .dll file can be found within the Kontakt Player 2 folder, in a folder called ";VSTPlugins";. If you see the KontaktPlayer2.dll file there, check its version number and it should be current. Then right-click, select ";copy";, then navigate to your FinaleVST folder, right-click, and select ";paste"; to place the current file there. Once you've done this, the next time you launch Finale, it will access the current version.
Note: Be sure you've quit Finale before you begin any of the above steps.
