Hey everyone I have posted here before with some similar problems with not much detailed info on my system so I dont mean to be a bother with a repost but I really need this problem fixed.
I would love to achieve the sound that the samples on Tapspace have for the cavaliers pieces.
I just got a new sound card a few months ago and it is a Sound Blaster Audigy, my computer has 512 MB of RAM and I have downloaded the DFD extension. I assume 512 (after looking at the FAQ) RAM is my main problem here because my programs often have delay and my playback is not smooth and is choppy.
A big frusteration of mine is the playback of diddles, for instance i will write out every 16th note for a 16th note double stroke roll and add the single slash for a diddle and the playback sounds like the snare is attempting a chopped up buzzroll. Anyway I hope that is enough data for you guys to help me out
ha, well that is dissapointing, finale cannot support ASIO....
weeeelllll it looks like the only solution for me then is to get more RAM for the computer. Hopefully that will cure the diddle problem as well as the lag.

Finale and support for ASIO (for some general information):
Well I think I'll just have to navigate around my computer's settings to see how that can be managed, I am looking into a new memory card because mine must be outdated.
If anyone is using finale as a host program and uses ASIO as their main setting it would be appreciated if you can give some info on it
thanks a lot Jim and Kiltie for your input. I know for sure to upgrade my memory and use ASIO.

[quote author=zoso955 link=topic=2181.msg11286#msg11286 date=1198287278] Thanks guys, I looked into the ASIO and i have it installed.
I am using VDL2 as a plug in with finale 2007 as the host program, i noticed if i bring up VDL2 alone, i can access the file and change the soundcard option to ASIO. But maybe I am just missing something but Im not sure how to configure ASIO to work through the finale host program with VDL2.

This is something I've wondered about too with Finale. Most host programs give you that option, but I can't recall seeing that in Finale 2007 (i could be wrong though). It may be that you just have to set up your default System audio to use the ASIO driver rather than the inferior DS or MME drivers. You'll probably do this in your system's control panel section.

Yes, that's a pretty low amount of RAM. Remember that RAM is also being used to run Windows. The good news is that RAM is relatively inexpensive these days so upgrading doesn't need to do you in. Since you mentioned using an Audigy card, are you certain your soundcard is configured to use its ASIO driver? Using ASIO over DirectSound or MME will make a huge difference. If these terms are unfamiliar with you, there's a brief description in the Glossary of the VDL2 User Guide, and Creative Labs' documentation should have more info on drivers as well.

Yeah the RAM is most likely your main issue for choppy playback. I have also encountered issues with diddle playback in Finale 2007. I quickly changed to switching off HP in Finale and using layer 4 (which I have set to be hidden), and writting in the 32nd notes as required.
Some of the guys on this forum recommend using the Smart Playback plugin under TG tools. I have not personally used this much as I just got into the habit of writting each note out individually.
FYI - the diddle playback with HP in Finale 2005 seemed to work much better IMO....
Here is a link to one of the recent posts about this.
