In addition to Bome's keyboard, there are a couple other options mentioned in the following FAQ, including ";VDLmidi"; (Mac only) which is made specifically for VDL by Corey Peterson.
Keep in mind though that if this sort of thing is somewhat new to you, using a virtual MIDI keyboard can make your ";ins"; and ";outs"; seem a bit more confusing to the lay person.

I'm pretty sure you can find that in the help files for Finale. Just look at how to set the input devices in Finale, and treat your on-screen midi keyboard like it were something you plugged in. Essentially, Finale gets input from that keyboard.

MAC users can try using VDLMidi but this will not work well with Finale for SOME aspects of this. I would suggest BOME'S or Granucon Virtual Midi Keyboards if ou are a Windows user. I use the Granucon one and it works great...assuming that you are not clicking too fast and that you are not using your touchpad on a Latop....these will cause Finale to crash.

Along the lines of getting VDLMidi to work with Finale - I'm happy to do more to get things to work. I don't own Finale, so it makes it difficult to test. If any Finale users want to work with me to improve the situation, please let me know!
