I'm pretty sure it's something I'm overlooking, but right now I have an instrument change going on in my score for a Marimba to do a cymbal roll. I have the instrument change set to roll on the Sus Cym (16 in if I recall) and I'm not quite understanding how the slow, medium, and fast cymbal rolls work.
I have the value of the roll set for only a half-note duration, but it extends past that duration every time. Help would be greatly appreciated.
You may want to check what note head you are using. In the Readme for the new template there is a section dedicated to note heads and articulations... from what I can see it's 0 = short, 31 = medium, long = 32. You can check and select this under properties > Notes. It's the first thing under the list. Shortcut to enter the note head number is alt (or option) + shift + (desired notehead number). Hope this helps! Peace...

In looking into this, it looks like the short roll (C3) is actually triggering the long roll (E3). So far everything looks correct, but there's some sort of conflict happening somewhere. Will investigate further and report back. Stay tuned....

Hi Alex - both Hugh and I looked at this with a bit of wonder. I was able to reproduce the problem you're having, and determined that the likely cause of the extra cymbal sound is that for some reason the short suspended cymbal roll was triggering the long suspended cymbal roll. In fact, it seemed that most things were triggering the long/loud roll.
However, upon deleting this, and reentering it with a MIDI keyboard, it seemed to work okay. Not a scientific solution, but...
Another thing that may be worth a try is this (and this goes back to Sibelius 3 & 4). If your instrument change is placed too close to the initial spot you're entering notes for the new instrument, it sometimes doesn't recognize the new instrument's mapping until the following bar (see below).
So a pretty easy workaround is to enter the instrument change, drag it to the left (about a bar or so), then enter your new part (sus cymbal in this case), then drag the instrument change back into it's original location once the part has been entered (see below).
Hey guys, I tried using a stave just with the Suspended Cymbal instrument and everything works fine. That is until I added a tempo change in the middle of the piece and now all the rolls are triggering the long cymbal rolls all over again.
...help?

this is completely off topic, but I was wondering, Jim, what are you using to make your screen shots and stuff with those arrows and font like that? It looks really good and really catches the eye. I am planning on doing some stuff for the people that use the Computer Lab at school and something like this would work great!!

That's strange! I don't know why a tempo change would affect this, but nonetheless that doesn't fix your problem. What happens if you edit the tempo change so that it reads the same (or close) to the initial tempo? Sometimes dictionary text has caused some confusion for certain things to go wonky, but this one's a bit of a stumper. Any other test scenarios you may be able to provide may hopefully help in zeroing in on the culprit here.

That's Skitch. It's a Mac-only app, but is undeniably the handiest thing I've used for quick screenshot grabbing/tagging/sharing. http://www.skitch.com/
